Last winter was mild. This summer was very hot. Now the balance is coming and we are going to get really cold?

It will be interesting to see if it’s accurate.

Based upon La Niña makes it more of a scientific guess.

It definetly was a strange winter last year,hard to predict what might happen we dont usualy get snow that stays before December but last year there was plenty.

We only had a single good snowfall. A couple very light snow days, but noting for accumulation. It was the least I have seen in years, dropping every year. I cant remember the last time we had really good snow.
If there was a dozen falls of 6" more more I would be very happy. Fill the sloughs with run-off and I would pay for some snow plowing equipment I bought over the last few years.

Oh goody! I can hardly walk, like I posted earlier, so I'll probably have a "heck" of a time brushing a few inches of snow off of my car when the surgeon lets me drive again. :sign0161:

Hunted the cow elk 3rd season this past Jan in zone 360.
-5 or so and even + temps off and on til Jan 20th, then it got nasty as I’m sure people recall.
And only 5-6” of snow too.

2012, 2013, 2014 - 2014 being the worst- wiped out a huge amount of deer. Hunting is just getting back to normal 2020/21. Hasn’t been that long.

Yup, we had an epic amount of snowfall in the Winter of 2010/2011. When it all melted, there was standing water in places we hadn't seen that in a long time.

Last year sure made me glad I sold my sled before we stopped getting snow. Buddy came and got it a week after a good dump of snow and we didn't get anything worth going on for the rest of the year! :47b20s0:

The winters of 96, 97 I used my snowblower to get out of the driveway in the morning and back in after work several times.

For you maybe- my snowplowing invoices say different. Lloydminster has gotten 8" and we got 2" many times, or Edmonton gets a foot and we get zip. Odd place.

I think in the last 15 years that I've lived in Slave Lake, I can only remember two winters where we did not get a ton of snow. One would be last year, and the other would have been around 08-09 ish. I'd agree that the worst snow was 13-14, working in Red Earth that winter I dont think I saw bare pavement on highway 88 from mid October to mid March. I once watched a deer (well, mostly just its ears sticking out of the snow) need to stop and rest several times making about a 30 yard trip from the road to into the bush. I can remember seeing the rabbits running down the roads in the morning, presumably because there was too much snow in the ditches... you know things are getting extreme when a critter called a " Snowshoe Hare" doesnt even want to deal with the snow.

HAHA pretty much with weather forecasters these days! Here's a clue, it was cold and snowy last year around this time, I bet it will be the same this year and ohhh probably next year as well? Imagine that!

Muskrat houses are pretty small this year so far might be an old wives tale but I have found it to have sone merit lol

X2 I've been trapping muskrats and using their houses as winter prediction for years and am almost ways right. Their houses around my area are small. We are in for a mild winter

Sounds like our highway department. Forecast is a snow storm for the 2 weeks prior to day X. Storm hits, nobody is on shift and all regular employees are out of town. No plows on a single truck or sand loaded. Shut the highway down which is a major route for interstate commerce because of the number of spun out semis/slide offs. After several hours we get a seasonal plow driver who try his best doesn't know what they're doing and by that time it's too late for one truck to get caught up with the storm. Yep every year!

I'm hoping this global warming kicks it up a gear. I want to get some more miles on the bikes. 25° all winter would be ok.

Let's split the difference? You get all our snow this year, and we get a warm winter, with lots of rain in the spring for the farmers. Why can't we all just share!

Last time that happened (two years ago around here), many could not drive on their fields to seed them. Many of those who did manage to seed, had a lot of rot, etc. Hay was great though!

Driving to Calgary that summer, don’t recall where exactly, about half way, I remember seeing quite a few fields looking like rice fields, full of water.

Would be nice to just have a “normal” year for a change, imo. The last few were weird: too wet, too dry, too warm, too something else, etc.

Hopefully really cold in Dec to make safe ice and then put a foot of snow down for traction....-10 for the rest of winter right through to the end of ice fishing....then dump a poop load of snow for the much needed moisture.

I recall that also. Felt like a guy had to shovel twice a day, every day that winter. We had 7’ snow piles next to our drive way.
