Eagle Lake Musky

1 Attachment(s)
My brother-in-law caught this today in Eagle Lake, BUT THE EAGLE LAKE IN NORTHWEST ONTARIO, not the one in Alberta. This is a 3 hour drive east of Winnipeg where he lives. The fish was a bit over 50 inches long and a bit over 40 lbs. It was release unharmed to get bigger. Strangely there are no musky in Manitoba. They say its because the pike spawn earlier and the pike fry eat the musky fry. But this can't be totally true, as there are lots of pike and walleye in Eagle Lake in Ontario, yet the musky do very well there and in other lakes in that area. So its a mystery...

That's awesome, I've never caught a Muskie but I'm going to!

Great fish, thanks for posting.

What was the bait used? Watched shows were they chuck huge crank baits etc.

Great fish....... however there are Muskies in Manitoba but only in Shoal Lake which is connected to Lake of the Woods which has lots of them..... I would love to get back down there to fish for them again....

Used to be musky in Beautiful Lake in the Duck Mtn's in Manitoba. I never fished for them but I once saw a guy catching one while I was walleye fishing nearby. What a fighter, seemed to be out of the water more than in it.

Amazing catch,,,, muskies may be the most difficult freshwater fish in North America in terms of catch rate to effort ratio. They say any muskie is a fish of 10,000 casts,,, a 50 incher would be even rarer!!!

Big and beautiful for sure. Good on you :sHa_shakeshout: Sure do miss the fishing in Ontario especially for those beasts. What a rush to say the least. Life time memory right there. Good to hear you give someone else a chance to catch that one

Nice fish Watch Uncut Angling he had an episode of a guy commercial netting ( legal) one out of Lake Winnipeg that was in the 30 lb range. They figured it came from Winnipeg river system. If theres one theres more. They did stock them in Duck Mtns too
