Chronomid fishing

How far north have you fished chronomids, are there midge hatches through out Alberta?

Guys use chironomids for lake trout and whitefish in the Yukon

I would imagine there are Chironomids in every body of water on the planet.

Yep pretty much all Lakes have Chironomids. I've even caught Rainbows and Brown's in the Bow with them, not to mention Whitefish.

I was in Whitehorse two summers ago and fished chironomids for whitefish and had probably the best day of fishing for me to date.

Is there a go to color and size when fishing new lakes or try to catch one first maybe on a enticer pattern first and pump stomach?

Be hard to go wrong starting with a dark color ribbed with silver in a size 12.

In May the first hatches start, seams to be the same bug all over western Canada. This is probably why blk body, red wire rib is so popular.,

Black with red rib sno cone, size 14 scud hook. Alternatively, #14 chromie or ABS. Often one of these will remain on my line for the rest of the day.
