Is there anyone in Alberta who makes cedar arrows for traditional shooting?

The Calgary archery centre always seems to have some cedar shafts in stock. Plus everything you need to make your own.

Talk to Wayne, his shafts are great. Three rivers archery carries them but he’ll probably sell directly to ya...if not give me a PM and I’ll rattle his cage for you.

We used to be hunting buddies before he left Alberta, he’s meticulous in the things he does.

I realise this isn’t what you asked but I would recommend surewood shafts over anyone’s cedar. Their Douglas fir was always good to me. Tougher and heavier then cedar and took a good stain. To be honest I don’t ever remember breaking one but I sure remember breaking cedar shafts.

Coil, Who made your arrows using those Surewood shafts?

True shaft vs surewood shafts... both are great companies.
True shaft is a Canadian company, I know where I’d spend my money.

I think those were made by addictive archery but I can’t remember. I had one doz made from a guy/sponsor on tradgang and then started buying shafts and building my own.

I’ve never shot Sitka spruce but I’ve heard good things about it. If I was buying shafts right now I would be trying them out.

Agreed, Chef. I like that call. I just need to find someone to build them for me I think, but I’m starting to wonder if I can make some on my own. I’ll check YouTube for some education. If you have any good links in the topic, please let me know.

All you need is a tapering tool and a fletching jig. An arrow cresting jig or machine if you want to get fancy but not everyone needs fancy arrows.

Get a good fletching jig, I’ve bought 4 cheap ones and really wish I’d have had the money for a bitzenberger right from the start. You might want to set up a spine tester if you get into it and they do make a huge difference in arrow consistence. But Wayne’s arrows are pretty close, you can also get him to hand select for grains and spine.
