Fortress Lake

Hello, I am looking to find out if anyone knows when and if the bridge across the Athabasca river is going to be rebuilt. I was last at fortress early June 2014 and was hoping to go back next month.

Also, has anyone been to Gong lake? It shows to be on the east side of the Athabasca and chaba. Is it a bush wack to get in and is there any fish (biggest question)?

Pretty disappointed the bridge has been out of commission this long, and I really wonder if foul play is involved. I also wonder about creating a funding page to get that bridge rebuilt if its still out of service.

thanks all.

Somebody on here had a thread about fortress from a trip last septemeber. Somebody chimed in that parks was planning to rebuild the bridge in 2019. Look up the thread and read it

Here’s the link:

I’m planning on going in there around September. Do you think with the extra melt from the snowpack it’ll be 1) accesible by river crossing and 2) ice free next month?

Speckle55 or Heff,

It looks as though you cross the Athabasca on foot. Can you mention where you crossed? Is it upstream or downstream of the bridge and roughly how far?

Thanks again - looks like a good trip was had.

Ya we were able to wade across it , we went during low flow , we crossed downstream a few hundred meters , follow the trail down the hill that starts at the campground and it will take you right to the river , that's where we locked the bikes up and crossed the river . Here's a little tip , once you cross the river , go ALL the way to the old bridge location , and ignore the well defined trail that runs along the river .
