Tent hunts
 

Normally we can drive into our hunting area with our trucks but this year it looks like the road has been gaited and atv only is allowed . 10km in every day is just to much to get into our area ,so it looks like tenting this year.
How many others are tenting this year , because of the roads that are closed.

Use to quad in 23kms for a few years then decided to put a tent in.

Will be a wall tent for September northern moose camp again. Yay!!!

We can drive into November whitetail camp but wouldn’t consider using anything but wall tent there.
Fuel for heat readily available. Wet clothing dries overnight. More room than a camper for sure.
What’s not to like? The more I use mine in a year, the happier I am.

Nothing like being in a tent and hearing elk bugle or wolves howl.

My moose camp is aprox 15 k from the nearest road. Even though it is in an atv anytime zone, it sure is nice to be off the beaten path and walk from the tent or beat the rush and get to your spot first. Nothing better than a crackling wood stove and a wall tent.

We always wall tent. Its an excuse to get away and enjoy the bush for longer periods. Besides its the best sleep, wood stove and darkness!

LOVE wall tent hunts ,might even do one this year for a week but the older I get the more I like my cabin .

My brother and me just bought a yurt style tent, has a stove hole in the middle, now we made a 16 ft wood floor for the tent, we bought a floor from a grain bin , now cutting it to pie shape to make it more lighter for both to handle, now waiting to set it up, in October ready for the November hunt, on private land way back 1/2 mile from road access

Wall tent only way to hunt, as already mentioned gets you back in to good area at the crack of dawn. Lots of work to set up a good camp and you need a good strong trailer for quad to haul all the gear.

I do 2 week long hunts a year and both are done living out of a wall tent. I have 2, 1 8x10 for packing on horses and the other is a 12x14 which I take in the wagon.
Best way to experience a hunt IMO!!

My wall tent is 16x20. Sleep 5 guys and still have lots of room for cooking

We run a 12x14 for sleeping and cooking then a 10x12 for parking quads in with a wood stove to warm them up and dry clothes in, have put horses in it as well over the years, it’s hard work for a camp set but wouldn’t do it any other way! Kill something or not it’s always an adventure.

Or bull moose grunting outside the tent in the middle of the night. Had that happen to us once a few years back, of course no one had a moose tag to go after him the next morning....lol

This will be our first year in my 12x14. Can't wait!!

Wall tent everywhere when it gets cold, and tarps and cots before the snow.

What does everyone recommend for a stove? Toying with the idea of getting a tent/stove set up for next year.

I have a tent that we will not use now, we will run the yurt tent now, mine has 2 stove holes, for the very cold night, also has 2 doors beside each, 16 x16 with a internal frame, we have used this tent for 5 years now, -30 and all good in the tent.

Camping in a wall tent with a wood stove and sleeping on a camping cot is the best. Lots of work to pack all the gear, set up and tear down though.

The more work you put in the more comfortable you’ll be. I’ve camped in November in a class A motorhome. It was November 10 and it got to -30. Had to start the generator to plug the motor in to get it to start. It was ok except for all the humidity. Wall tents with wood stoves are great for more than two or three guys two tents a kitchen dining area and a sleeping area. I’ve also wrapped my -35 sleeping bag in. Canvas tarp and slept under a spruce tree the tarp was an over sized bag that I put my down bag inside and it had another flap that could be treated out or tied up and acted as a bit of a shelter. I had a 2 inch foam mattress sewn into this. I was warm but getting up was brutal until a fire was going. And I’ve slept in the truck on several occasions.

If you’re going the wall tent route it takes time to set up and tear down better part of a day if you have any distance to and from the truck. But it is the driest and warmest option. Lots of work cutting wood too. Takes time away from the hunt.

So long as there are no bugs out I just use a tarp. I know some people feel more secure in a tent, but I like lying there and watching my fire burn down, looking at the stars while I fall asleep. With the proper sleeping gear I've comfortably tarped it down to -29C.

Honestly, I'd rather just tuck into a warm sleeping bag than wake up and feed a woodstove periodically through the night.

Been running a 12x14 wall tent for hunting for twenty plus years now. We still drive 5-7 miles into the back country with the quads to start hunting, just so we dont leave too much human sign in where we want to hunt.
I love the sound of the wolves howling in the middle of the night. Not so crazy about coming back to camp and finding we had a visit from one of the local grizzlies. All part of the game. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I love tent hunting. We have acquired many different tents over the years. It is so nice to be able to setup damn near anywhere and be comfortable.
