Mousing
hey guys haven't posted in a while. just wanted to see if anyone here fished mouse patterns. if so did you have any success? I've got this image in my mind of a 25 inch brown crushing a mouse that I can't get rid of. just wondering if it's worth my time.

It certainly can be. Most effective in low light or at night in my experience.
I've only done it for bull trout and rough fish, but it works!
Tried it twice for pike with no success
I've had bull trout eat for me but never landed them as well as a few pike that I have landed on them.
Once in a blue moon.

I've seen many half eaten mice, fishing next to cliffs, even to the point were one day I saw two mice dragging their half eaten body on the rocks. This was in bull trout loaded waters tho, but I bet it would work for big browns!

Update: thanks for all the replies guys! I went out for an hour in the pouring rain tonight and fished strictly mice. I hooked 3 browns and landed one we over 20 inches. Verdict: mousing is great! might just be beginner's luck but I will definitely be mousing again

I have caught big brown trout in New Zealand back country with up to 8 mice in them, last trip back there, night fishing Nelson lakes, I seen several mice swimming in the lake, and watch two disappear, I couldn't connect, that night. But the 6lb brown I got in the Buller river outlet, next morning had two mice in its gut.
Caught a few Bull trout, in the kootneys on mice flys. Fun fly to fish if the conditions a right, |
Lots of pike, no big trout yet.
I use a sink tip cast two quick strips pulling mouse under pause and repeat
We use mice for lake trout all the time and it works very well.
