$500,000.00 to spend on rifles
 

With all this talk of Cadillac and Mercedes type rifles I'm curious what people would buy. You have $500,000.00 to spend on rifles only. You can have any number up to a maximum of 4 and can include the optics in the budget but nothing else. You can't say "I'd buy a Ruger and spend the rest on hunts". Guns only and you don't need to spend the budget. What are you buying?

LOL...now that is a big budget. I've seen a few rifles in the neighbourhood of $200k at the SCI show but nothing I'd be that excited about owning. I could have my four dream rifles with optics for under $25k. I'd spend the remaining $475k on hunts....:innocent:

I guess I'm just too utilitarian when it comes to rifles. I buy them to hunt hard with but then again, I'd never own a Cadillac or Mercedes either. While I repect those that love fine rifles, it seems a gross waste of money to me. Give me a rifle that shoots straight and can stand up to the rigors of hard hunting and I'm a happy man.

A .243, .270WSM, .300WM and a .375 H&H and I'm good to go. Hard to get synthetic rifles into that price range..........:)

i like the idea above....i'd have to research it but a top notch tactical rig would be in order....think i've seen some canadian built rigs on here that looked like fun range/beanfield toys with big bad nightforce on top

then i'd have a blaser r93...maybe a couple of them, a professional with natural stone stock inletted to handle all the barrels, and then they have a safari selous edition that could eat up 15k in a hurry...or black edition etc. but eitherway i'd end up with one i could beat on and go light for alpine work and then one i might take on safari with and a bunch of barrels/mounts to eat up some of that extra cash you laid out...i'd have the rimfire kits to the really big bores, some fluted, some magna-ported also...some light, some varmint contour....the works:D

i assume i get to keep the rifles i already have?

i can't think of anything over 2k i'd really like to go after other than the above, i will have a volquartsen magnum rimfire with 25 round mag soon and that will eat up around 1500 but hardly worth mentioning in that budget and maybe a fnar auto-loading rig to play with also?

I think I would have to go old school. First think I would buy is a 1874 Sharps Buffal Rifle in 45-110. There's just something about it. Then get my hands on an original Winchester '95 in 30-40 Krag. Long barrel. Never been into custom rifles, but would like to have a 300 win mag built to cut the turd from a squating coyotes arse at 800 yards. Not sure what othe rifle I could buy with the remaining 490,000 bucks. :) Maybe a 50 BMG for coyote hunting. Hey, you wouldn't have even have to drag 'em out of the field.

Barrett M82 .50 Cal, something in a .338 Lapua Mag, an M249 Saw, 2 Colt Single Action Army .45LCs.. One with a birds head grip. A Winchester lever in .45LC, Marlin 336 in 30-30 and 45-70, a Weatherby Sporter in .257 Weatherby Mag, a Browning Mountain Ti or Remington 700 Alaskan Ti in .270WSM, Khar CW9, and a Stoeger 12 gauge Coach Gun... Just to name a few....Oh and all the ammo for them as well..lol

Wow!! 4 "dream rifles" is tough!

I'm going to say a .257 Roberts in a Dakota 76 Classic w/ XX English Walnut, .330 Dakota in a Martin Hagn falling block, .45/70 in a Winchester '86 by Doug Turnbull, and .416 Rigby in a classic Rigby African Express bolt action rifle.

Scopes, nothing fancy, Leupold VX 3, 2.5- 8X on the .257 and the .330 Dakota.
Nothing on the .45/70 but open sights, of course. Express sights on the Rigby w/ detachable mounts and a Leupold VX3, 1.5- 5X with German #4 reticle.

Now, I just need a new bow, so that I have something to hunt with and I'm set!

... I'd love to own an English double too, 470 or 577 or similar... I might have to play this one again!

Woohoo. An English double rifle in 577 Nitro express. New or used but that should burn up 250,000. Then a custom weatherby in 375 Wby. I don't know the details but it would have all the engraving and the french walnut. Then a Dakota traveller in 338 and 404 Dakota with all the trimmings and a case hardened action. I'm thinking these last two will only burn up 40-50 thou once cased. Then a Searcy double in an everyday caliber, 450/400 Nitro Express. That one would be about 30g's. So I come up short:D The first two would not be daily rifles and the last two would go to work on some antelope and moose/elk.

Martini and Hagn. Right around the corner from me. I would buy 2 falling block actions, .375HnH, and a 6.8SPC

I'm not good with budgets....I spend my money on women and rifles... the rest i just waste. for 500 k i'd be wastin and livin for a while...:evilgrin:

can we buy a couple of shot guns dont really need any rifles as I love my Weatherbys already, would upgrade the scopes maybe a couple of schmidt & benders. However seens how I have all this money I sure would like a Blaser R8 and would not mind getting a Christan Arms custom in a 30-378 weatherby. Shotguns come to mind Though when I have all this money a new Holland and Holland royal and maybe a k80 kreighoff and while i am still spending how about a merkle live pigeon.

Here's what I've decided I'll do. With the $500K, I'll start with 4 rifles in the range of $15- $20,000 each. I'll book a hunt with an outfitter, with the condition of him taking his choice of rifle or rifles on trade. I'll hunt, then replace the rifles used on trade (never exceeding 4) then find another outfitter and hunt combination with the same conditions. Continue with 10 or more "solid" hunts ending with enough cash to acquire the rifles I've listed above. Sounds reasonable!!

A .408 Cheytac, a Long Branch Lee Enfield no.4 (T) sniper rifle (that's seen use in Normandy during WWII if possible) a WWII dated German G43, and either a AI AWSM or Timber Wolf in .338 Lapua Mag.....that's about 40K I guess, with optics.

.50 cal, a Bors system and the rest on Ammo.

I'd buy a 1000 savages.

If i spent that much on 4 rifles i would think it would cost me more for the divorce
