Fun with Flu Flus!

hey all, I'm getting ready for the upcoming season and having fun with my new bow. I think its time to get some flu flus though and start hitting the skeet range. wondering whats best, buy the flu flus or (preferably) make my own? if I would make my own how would I go about doing it? should I use just any old shaft, or do I have to use a special one? do I need a fletching jig to apply the fletching? and would it be okay to use wooden shafts, maybe having the perfect spine and everything might not be so serious with flu flus?

:D Most use bright dyed feathers , we have them in full size 12" turkey feather that can be cut to 3-4" feathers..
you can use any shaft but need a flething jig to save you hours as done by hand takes skill and time...

Flu Flus can be 3-4-5-or even 6 fletch/feathers most jigs fletch now in 3 fletch...so for flu flus that jig will do 6 fletch...minor adjustment...the more feathers/fletch the more effective the flu flus...
I suggest at least 4- 6 full cut feathers...

they can be helical..which are very noisy or straight both work well with six feathers...

below is CX store bought..

how exact would the fletching have to be? I have done repairs on arrows that I shot out of a high speed compound without sacrificing accuracy, so would that be good enough to do a whole arrow for a recurve? also what do you think about the spiral flu flus? might be easier to fletch?

:D With flu flus close counts...lol..as a matter of fact any fletching flaws may make a flu flu work better...lol

:D The sprial type can be done by hand with sticky tape backing on strips...much like a wrap...very easy but dont seem to last as long or as effective...

:D Using two sided tape ...unless its high tech most likely wont work well...they have super sticky tape bonded to feathers or sprial vane

so one last question, I'm thinking I will probably order the supplies from Lancaster, but, seeing as how that is an American company and I am in northern alberta does it work? are there any fees or taxes or extraordinary waiting times I should know about?
