Help | 250 or 300 arrows?

Trying to determine if I should get a 250 (8.8gpi) or 300(8.9gpi) spine in the Victory RIP TKO Gamer arrows. Victory spine calculator says i should do a 300 but if i change some of the front or backend weight +/- 15ish grains it says do a 250. So, feel I am on the cusp. From what i read, if your on the cusp go stiffer (250). Any thoughts or recommendations (aside from buying and testing them $$$).

**Bow Details**
Bow: Bow Tech Carbon Zion
Draw Length: 30"
Draw Weight: 72lbs
IBO: 335fps

**Arrow Details**
Arrow: RIP TKO Gamer 250(8.9gpi) / 300(8.8gpi)
Arrow Diameter: .204
Arrow Length: 30.5"
Fletching's: 18gr
Nock: Nocturnal (27gr)
Shock collar/insert: (50gr)
Broadhead: (125gr)
Total arrow weight: 490ish gr

Estimated FOC: 12%
Estimated FPS: 287fps

Thanks!

Always stiffer. “Borderline” causes all kinds of tuning problems and especially broadhead flight problems

Internet lore always steers you to stiffer but few have actually done the work and properly tuned a setup like that. With non center shot bows and wooden or alloy arrows the tip weight made a big difference. Tuning my long bows it mattered a lot. With a center shot compound and carbon arrows the point weight isn’t much of a concern. The BEST tuned bow I’ve ever owned was 70lbs @ 30” with 200 grains leading a .340 shaft and it was unreal.

I’ve been shooting 30” dl with 80lb’s for a bit over 10 years and can tune .280 and .300 spine arrows with 200 grains up front. By tune I mean broadheads, bare shafts and field tips grouping together at 70 meters. I’ll put 5 different fixed blade broadheads in my quiver and they all hit to the same point of aim.

You probably won’t go wrong either way but I’ve never shot a .250 spine from a 70lb bow. I have tuned .300’s and .340’s and never had a problem.

Go with 250's

I recently built a dozen new arrows and my setup is almost identical to yours, except my draw is a touch longer at 31". I was debating between 250 and 300 spine, ended up going with a 250 spine and the Victory Vap arrows. FOC is ~16%, same broadhead and insert weight as you, total weight 510 grains. Left the arrows uncut at 31" to help offset the stiffer spine a bit. I can always cut them down later on if needed.

I would recommend the 250 spine. You could always increase your insert weight if you are over-spined, plus a little higher FOC is nice.

250 spine. If you’re close to the line always caution to a stiffer arrow.

Yup, this is the way...

Unless I'm cheap... turning the draw weight down on the bow also "stiffens" the arrow. Actually no, the arrow doesn't get "stiffer" the force being applied to the arrow is lessened. Basically, the arrow is "stiffer" because it isn't being pushed as hard.

A true arrow with less force is better than a crooked arrow heaved mightily.

Thanks to all who responded. Ended up going with the 250s. No regrets so far. Have good groupings with fixed broadheads out to 60. I'm thinking of increasing my poundage for next year so the 250s were the right way to go.

Thanks!!!
