Ridiculous result.

I was in a bit of a panic tonight. I had developed a good load load with 140 grain Berger VLDs, trouble was that I couldn't source any of the "hunting" bullets in that weight so I settled for 130 grain instead.
Loaded these five different charge weights and these were the results. I realize these are only three shot groups but I was none the less very surprised with the result. I'm really becoming a tikka fan, will be setting up the chronograph tomorrow.

The Finns have been making accurate rifles for a very long time. .1x groups in preliminary testing will make a fan of anyone pretty quick.

260 Rem 09-11-2017 09:40 PM

Great shooting. The Ber 130 VLD(H) are my best 6.5 performers except with
H4350.

urcayuse 09-11-2017 09:57 PM

I haven't got to try H4350 yet. My source of n204 is somewhat limited I'll have to find something else in the future.

Every tikka that I have or had are good shooters,223,243,6.5x55se,and 7m 08.I now just have 2 tikka's in 223 and 243 and they shoot so well I won't sell them and I don't get attached to very many rifles. The 6.5x55 was excellent and I gave to my brother to use and he just brought back cash and is in love with it.

That's a great start for sure, hard to beat.
Can't blame a miss on the rifle/load combination now.:)

Beeman3 09-12-2017 06:29 AM

I also shoot the 130 Berger out of my 6.5X47. I use H4350 with great results. What kind of speed are you getting out of your 260?

urcayuse 09-12-2017 06:39 AM

I was getting 2630 with the 140's. I've yet to run these 130's over the chronograph.

Beeman3 09-12-2017 06:45 AM

OK. I just seen that your powder charge seemed low compared to my X47. But it is a full custom done by RBROS. I get just under 3000 fps with the 130 Berger hunting. Just for curiosity sake I am going to try some 147 ELD-M with R26 and see how fast they will go. Some guys really getting good results with R26 out of the 260 and Creed.

urcayuse 09-12-2017 07:22 AM

42.5 is .4 over max in the Berger manual. The lot of n204 is old like 25/30 years old so that may have something to do with it. Curious to see what the chrony says tonight.

260 Rem 09-12-2017 08:52 AM

With the 130 (H) I think my accuracy loads for my 260 Rem are about 2800 fps and for the '47's about 2850 fps from 24" barrels using H4350. There is more room to hot them up at the expense of consistency.
What length barrel on your TAC AI?

You just had to post these hey? Thanks
I thought I had settled on buying the new remington 700 magpul in .260
:angry3:

Great post. Thanks!
Sorta

This rifle has a 24" barrel. I had one on order with Grouse River ,and well we all know how that went. I got mine from a small shop in Ontario called Rangeview Sports give them a try.

aardvaark 09-12-2017 10:43 AM

love the Finn guns

I have a 338 in a Sako, a 25-06 and a 204 both in Tikka. My three fav's in my collection. Can't say I've had the results you've got, but a gun can only shoot as good as the guy/gal behind it. I can often hold my own, but never like that.

It's true, a lot of it has to do with the gun and the load, but it's just as important to have the right guy/gal squeezing the trigger. Good on ya!!

Are you having to jump the bullets at all? I have found VLD's can be picky with seating depths in many rifles I've used including my tikka varmint. Some people do get lucky and don't have to play around with it much.

urcayuse 09-12-2017 09:57 PM

I've used a 40 thou jump on these and other Bergers as well.

Hey SD~I was in a store in Ontario today (buying my 2018 gopher ammo if you must know :) ) and saw a Tikka CTR in the rack. Just checked their site, look like they have one in 6.5 Creedmoor. Not sure if links are OK to post, but here it is;

Great guys to deal with btw.

Good luck!
