Double check your priorities
 

So I was checking my AlbertaRELM account and seeing where I was for moose, I realized my “either sex” elk draw stated “awarded”.... but how can that be? I have purchased an OTC resident elk tag?

So I look a bit deeper... low and behold my “either sex” elk priority was added to my antlered elk! I never requested this nor was I notified of this.

I had been building an “either sex” elk priority years ago because I thought Suffield may go that way at some point.

The Cypress “either or” elk season has been cancelled but there are still other opportunities.

I have made a call To AlbertaRELM, they said not their thing, call F&W so I did... not their thing email licensing ... so that’s where it’s at! I’ll update when I find out.

Funny you posted that. The very same thing happened to my wife a few years ago. I had 999 her moose draw to build more priority and then she was awarded a cow draw out of no where. Worse yet, I hadn’t realized it until after, much after the season closed.

Very frustrating process... I called the help line and explained the situation. Since I had a print screen copy, they put her back to the same priority and I won my case easily.

Hors to show the system isn’t flawless and it’s worth, as you say, reviewing priorities and awarded draws.

Draw code 41 was eliminated for Cypress Hills but is still a valid code elsewhere... I wanted to keep my priority in the either sex draw but they converted it!

That’s not what I wanted done... I wanted to maintain my code 41 points.

Keep your paperwork on that and ask to speak to a manager. I think it warrants escalation.

I have one like that I’m protecting too. I get the urgency of your situation.

All that left was the Wainwright option. I got a email notification from them back in September to declare keep in Wainwright or switch to either antlered or antlerless. I had some years on antlered so I added it to that. You obviously did not get notified.

No I didn’t at all... I want to keep my 5 yrs of priority in draw code 41.

Aren’t the Wainwright hunts closed because of COVID or did I misread...?

Yes they are this year, but if you drew a tag your priorities are being returned and being increased as per the draw entry.

My neighbor found out this year that he was awarded his moose draw last year. He thought he was a few years out so he 999’d it but turns out he applied and was drawn.

Good advice to keep an eye on it.

They got back to me and finally sorted it out... realizing they didn’t account for the scenario I found myself in.

I’ve been building points for ever but they are in Either sex,how do I transfer them into bull only ? Will the Comp get it correct if I just start going to bull only,I never entered this previous year,I don’t want the points built earlier go stagnant,tks for the help.

What does your priority say now? If you did nothing this year they stay as is, if you put in for antlered or antlerless they got converted.

If you did not enter at all you have to live with it.

It still says either sex,tks for the info,takes a load off my mind,good luck this year and stay safe

So here's my update....after switching my Either Sex Draw Code to Bull I checked the other day when I bought my fishing license and they had switched it back to Either Sex. Called RELM and they had no record of anything, not even the notification when they sent my option lol.

Emailed them a screenshot of my selection and their acknowledgement of it. Waiting to hear back.
