22 jgr

I expect these are pretty rare but I ran across a chap shooting one this morning. A really neat looking cartridge, I think wildcatted off a 22 Hornet. Google it to see the cartridge which in the end looks like a baby centerfire, rimless, bottle neck 22LR. Apparently uses a small pistol primer and light weight 223 bullets. I should have taken a picture.

I like weird little wildcats like this. On another forum I saw where a guy was necking 25auto brass down to 17, 20, and 22 I believe. It looked funny aswell when you realize just how small it is.

Picture of how you make it from a 22 Hornet case. Notice the lathe work to make it into a rimless case. Definitely not for the average guy but fun like so many of the mini 22 CFs like the Squirrel, TCM, Flea and the like.

A couple of more mini Centrefires for those that like this stuff

Thanks for the pics Dean. Too bad the little 22JGR was not popularized and adopted for commercial production. A reloadible 22 that size would be pretty cool.

man if it werent for such the extensive brass prep id be all over that! i love odd and unusual varmint guns. sadly my love is more on the shooting end than the reloading one. wonder how well a 20jgr would work

I think a 20jgr would be a hot little round. I think the 22’s are as fast as the 22 mags, so the 20’s should be speedier.

There is a version of that round that is exactly the same but retains the rim from the 22 Hornet so you don't have to turn the brass on a lathe. They come in 17, 19 , 20 and 22 Calibre. Works great in single shots and anything that was built to fire the 22 Hornet or 17 H. Here are pictures of the Squirrel and Mink which are a slightly larger cased versions that retain the 22 Hornet rim.

There is a 22LR centerfield case available.

Rifle would need modification to centerfire.

22 jgr

Thanks for the brass info AB2506.
I have a Tyrol 5522 bolt action, came with 22 hornet case formed to 22 jgr die, plus loading dies that have been collecting dust for many years.
I am contemplating shooting this rifle. That is the reason for my interest.
Jim
