Which Powders

After gathering the components for the past while I would like to try my hand at reloading. I have heard that some powders are better suited to colder weather than others. I will be loading 180gr bullets for a 300 Win Mag, 140gr bullets for 7mm-08 and 130gr bullets for 270. I have several different bullets to try for each caliber, but would like to get a general consensus on a powder(s) to start out with. Any advise greatly appreciated.

The temperature sensativity issue is more prevelent with respect to pressure spikes caused by hot conditions.

Cold weather ignition is more a combination of chosing the correct primer, and burn rate than any specific manufacture of powder.

The only way to assure good results for cold weather operation is to work loads in cold weather, that is a for sure.

You'll likely be settling on more than one powder with your calibers listed, but on that read my sig line.

270 and 300 try something like 4831 (either blend)maybe 7828

For the 7mm-08, Varget, 4064, or maybe either 4350.

For primers I'd get as far way from development with Federal primers because they are so dang hard to get these days. I'd lean towards the Winchester offerings, possible Magnums even in the 270 (the 300 is a for sure), and regular LR's in the 7mm-08.

But, cold weather evaluation is the only way you will know what is gonna work in cold weather.

I've been told, magnum primers are more effective in cold weather.

H-4831 is temp impervious and will work in the .270 + .300mag/180gr no problem.I use magnun primers in all my rifle calibers except when using cast bullets....Harold *never loaded for the 7mm-08 so no comment.

if i was to use 1 powder for all 3 it would prolly be imr 4831 and a magnum primer for all

Add,,,just checked u might not be able to fit imr 4831 in that case (7mm-08) if u could it would be pretty compressed pretty much fill it to the top and card it off ,,, which might not be so good in the cold

I am using IMR 4320 for 708 with a 139 bullet. And when I reloaded 300 I used RL-22 with a 180 bullet. Don't have a 300 anymore though. Got a few empty once fired brass for a 300 if anyone wants them.

I use RL-22 in my 300WM loads with 180gr Accubonds and Federal Mag (215) primers. Maybe try the Winchester 780 powder too for everything.
I have some, but not the chance to reload anything yet. Its what Winchester uses in the Winchester Supreme amoo for 243, 270, 300WM, WSM's .

Thanks for the feedback guys, greatly appreciated. I have several manuals at home but with all the powders listed it is nice to hear what guys are using themselves.
