JTF2 confirmed sniper kill at over 3 kilometers
I have no idea the calculations and consideration of variables that would go into a shot at that distance, but regardless, once again, Canadian forces rule supreme.
https://beta.theglobeandmail.com/new...ticle35415651/ "A sniper with Canada's elite special forces in Iraq has shattered the world record for the longest confirmed kill shot in military history at a staggering distance of 3,540 metres. Sources say a member of Joint Task Force 2 killed an Islamic State insurgent with a McMillan TAC-50 sniper rifle while firing from a high-rise during an operation that took place within the last month in Iraq. It took under 10 seconds to hit the target." |
Nice!
|
That's crazy far. A person could take a leisurely stroll and move several meters in the time it took the round to get there!
|
Wow crazy shot. Apparently they have video. Would be interesting to watch the flight path. Similar shot to a deer I bagged one time with my Savage....

Perspective
I get excited when I can hit an 18" gong 5 out of 10 times at 600m That is the kind of distance I cannot even imagine shooting. I hope to be able to hit my gong at 1000 m one day but 3400 is sick!!!
|
I can't even imagine what that would have taken to score a hit. The drop is somewhat predicable, but the wind, the position of the target almost 10 seconds after you pull the trigger, etc...
Absolutely Amazing. |

^ Somewhat agree. Still nice though. I wouldn't even know where to begin when attempting to make such a shot, if you know what I mean :sHa_sarcasticlol:

Close eyes... rifle angled very high... empty clip... repeat

Why is it just the sniper who gets famous, is there no special recognition for being the target ?? :sHa_sarcasticlol:
Their 15 seconds of fame arrived and it wasn't quite what they'd been hoping for! |
Bah. I do that all the time on gophers with ma paws ole 22
Pretty crazy stuff ! It's weird in the article when it talks about flight time .... says under and or less than ten seconds. Anybody else find that strange ? 9.5 Just under 10 etc etc. |
The great one says "you miss 100% of the shots not taken".
I don't think he meant it for shooting Isis but I suppose it means the same. Good job anyways. |
Is the rifle minute of jihadi at 3450m? I think so
|
To all those long range shooters
|
Deadly.

Not a bad shot for one of the sweater knitters our intrepid leader sent over. :)

Also, beat the record by what a distance! Two out of the the next three past record-holders are also fellow Canadian, btw. So there is gotta be something there. https://www.theglobeandmail.com/inco...NARY/image.jpg |

Rob Furlong by took three to kill his target how many years ago and the laser ranging, balistics systems and other related technology has advanced even further Cat |
I wonder what the sight picture and scope setup for a 100m bullet drop looked like.
|
He probably had the exact elevations of both himself and the target. Electronics these days give a big advantage compared to years ago.
Maybe zero wind. Application for air temp correction etc etc. Nice to hear it can be done. Wonder if that was his first shot? |
Seems like you hear a lot more about these records these days. Some guys become famous. I can see it now.... "range, 3300 meters" "What's the record?" "3400". "OK, let's go back a couple hundred meters and set up again." ;) Oh calm down, I'm just joking.
3400 yards. That's not even shooting. That's advanced science and mathematics. Wow. Impressive. |
