Last night I stripped the horrid spray finish off my 1975 Marlin 336. Today I added some oil/stain and it looks great. A few more coats to rub in...Sorry, I don’t have a good “before” picture. I am really pleased.

I've only had my reloading bench set up for a few months and it's all still a work in progress. Would like to eventually expand the benchwork a few feet to spread my presses out a little bit and give me more work room on the bench. But for now this setup is working pretty good for my first bench.

A new reloader here; have only been reloading for 7 months. I Got into reloading after acquiring a Winchester 1894 'Alberta Diamond Jubilee' chambered in 38-55, and soon realizing the lack of factory ammo choices avaliable and the fairly high cost of said factory ammo when I'm able to source it. So that sparked my interest in reloading.

After getting all my components and tooling needed to reload I soon realized another problem of acquiring projectiles for said 38-55, which has inevitably started to peek my interest in learning to cast my own boolits. So ths last 2 months I've been slowly been putting together a casting kit and hope to start casting once time permits

I also really fell down rhw reloading rabbit hole along the way and now reload for all my calibers, rifle and pistol and it has become a side hobby from hunting and shooting. A part of the hobby I can practice and enjoy daily for an hour or two with out even leaving the house. And some days woth two toddlers and 2 teens getting out is not that easy of a task unfortunately.

Haven't really been too active on these forums, while I'm a huge lurker who definitely benefits from all the great hunting knowledge on this forum, which has been my main draw I've just never become a very active member. Maybe that will change if I start sharing.

Hopefully there are other shooters/Reloaders of the 38-55 caliber willing to share their knowledge, as I have heard the 38-55 leads good to reloading, I've found data very limited, especially in published manuals which are best offer minimal load data..

Newest addition to the reloading room. A new cabinet!

https://i.postimg.cc/SxWPbqkJ/696-CB...247-FF78-C.jpg

I needed to move my AutoTrickler away from my AMP annealer. The 2 very large magnets inside the annealer were causing havoc for the lab grade scale. They were also interfering with the Bluetooth signal to the AutoTrickler.

Tuned a Rem trigger from 20# to 36 oz's. was a good day.

Interesting. I wonder how far away it needs to be? I have mine within a couple of feet but haven’t noticed anything weird. But I could be missing something.

6MT 02-23-2021 01:21 PM

I even tried ferrite chokes on the wall wart's cable. No joy. But the field around the AMP acts with induction, so nearby objects like very accurate precision instruments can be affected. I even tried unplugging the AMP when not in use. still had drift and calibration issues.

As for the Bluetooth signal, that was kind of funky. Sometimes, the thrower would cycle constantly. You have to actually unplug the Autotrickler to stop it. Really crazy the first time that happened.

Anyways, when I moved it away from the AMP, all problems disappeared.

Watching videos on Black Powder hunting and shooting.

I've decided to get back into Black powder muzzle loading and hunting. A few years ago, I gave my investarms .50 cal Hawken to my son in law and I found that I missed the rifle. I obtained a TC .54 caliber Hawken and at the same time, located and purchased a TC .50 cal Hawken for my wife. She is completely new at BP shooting, so some time yesterday afternoon was cleaning both rifles and generally showing the Mrs. the how to and the why for of the
"smoke poles" down in my reloading mancave.
Both rifles were previously owned and the bores were filthy by anyone's standards. Boiling hot soapy water and a many patches on a cleaning jag sorted that problem out. The barrels were left muzzle down to drain and to allow the hot metal to evaporate any moisture remaining in the bore. the nipples were removed prior to the bath and left to soak in the hot soapy water.
Bore butter on a patch with a few swipes down the bore was all that was needed to protect the metal. I'm waiting for some bullet molds to arrive so I will be able to cast both round ball and minie balls for both calibers.:sHa_shakeshout:

The cup comes home this year my friend!

Early this morning at 0300, I took out my .54 TC Renegade Hawken and did a complete strip and clean of that barrel. I have not had a chance to shoot her yet, as I only took possession of this rifle last week. I discovered that through other AO members that my rifles shallow rifling is purposely made and that these barrels won't wear down. A 1 in 28" twist rate in this barrel, I can't wait to get the molds for a maxi or minie ball purchased and in the mail.

duceman 02-28-2021 12:00 PM

so far i have learned that the bullet weight vs. twist rate sheet i have is a liar. a 12 twist barrel will not stabilize 90 or even 85 gr. bullets. stacks 68's in a hole though...............

Sitting Bull 02-28-2021 03:29 PM

Loaded up a bunch of 444 Marlin. 46gr H4198, 265gr Hornady FP. This combo is very accurate in my Remlin.

Loaded up some 243win with 55 tipped varmagedons and trail boss. At 14 grains charge it shoots tiny little groups at 50 yds. My kids ruger compact is amazingly accurate.

Not reloading, but done in the same room: assembled my second Marlin after removing the awful varnish and finishing with many coats of oil and several coats of furniture wax. This time I managed before and after pics.

Making up some initial test loads for a new 30-06. The first three shots out of the barrel seem to show promise.

I ran into a screamer deal on some ammo for a rifle I sold but now have back. The owner asked me if I wanted it , but some of it is loaded with Barnes TTSX bullets and I don't plan on using them as I don't own a .30 hunting rifle.
Pulling those bullets and replacing with some match bullets.
Hey Chuck, want some .30 TTSX bullets?:medium-smiley-035:
