stillwater fly swap
Hey guys and gals, anyone interested in a stillwater fly swap? Did a few last winter and I think they went well. I'm thinking 8-10 tiers with a finish date of the end of January. Let me know as I know there's another one going on.

Count me in - I'm in need of some more stillwater varieties!
|
I'm in.

End of January is good, count me in.

Count me in will be my first one

I'll probably do a traditional Scottish still water fly like a blue zulu or a kate mclaren, or a bibbio.
|
What the hey, I'm in again. Will do a backswimmer pattern.
|
nice to see everyone is still here in the forum! I have a friend who wants in as well so that makes nine. I'd say we leave it open till Friday to see if we can hit 12 and call it good. The winter fly swap group is back! lol...I'll have to get some hats made!

Fly Swap
Count me in.

Count me in. I have had tiers block lately. I haven't tied a fly in a month. Not sure why. I usually tie about 300 to 400 a month. I need to get tying again. This will be a good kick in the butt for me to get behind the vice again.
I'll tie a.................... ???????????? Hmmmmmmm here I go with that darn tiers block again. I'll sit down at my vice tonight and bang off a few. That will determine what I tie. Look out here I come. |
I'm in if there's room? Balance micro-leech.
|
Yup, but I think we'll call it at 12. I'll post a pic of my contribution soon and will Pm everyone my contact info.
|
my swap is just wrapping up. if you have room for one more I have a decent calibaetis pattern. I wouldn't mind just tying and not worrying about where everyone's flies are at and whether ibwill be able to send them all back by the deadline lmao

OK guys, I've sent out the address and recounted. There are 12 of us.
If anyone just wants to meet up instead of shipping the flies that's cool, I work all over Calgary and Okotoks. |

Started tying my flies today. I'm tying some damsels for this swap. Are you wanting us to include a self addressed stamped envelope. So you don't have to pay all the shipping?
Here's a picture of the first few I have tied today. http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/attac...1&d=1513456235 |
Got PM'd couple questions so I figured its best to clarify here.
There are 12 participants so each tyer will send 12 flies and will then receive 12 flies back including 1 of their own. It's easier for sorting this way. Each tyer should send a self addressed stamped envelope with their flies. We've set a deadline of end of January so try and get your flies in before then, if they all get here earlier I will send them back earlier. Several of the tyers in this swap were involved in my swaps last year and already know the protocol so this is more info for the newbies. I'm going to tie a black sparkle leech (size 8)that was deadly this past summer in Beaver and Bullshead reservoir, and also worked pretty good in the Bow some days. |
Mine are almost done but I'll wait until after New Year's to mail out.
Did a dozen brown crystal chenille back swimmers with a brown quill back but will include another dozen with a lighter mottled brown back, 'cause the're so easy to tie up. |
Since it's Christmas and I couldn't sleep last night I decided to tie an extra dozen flies. Mine are all done. There's a dozen damsels and now another dozen of my favourite micro leeches. You'll have to hide while tying these onto your tippet. Trout may jump right into your boat after them.
Merry Christmas everyone o http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/attac...1&d=1513630593 |
Here's a question for the fly swap participants: Crush the barb or not, before sending out?
Over 98% of my flies are barbless, as much as concern for the trout as well as for my fingers! So does that mean I should crush the barbs before sending out the ties or leave it up to the receivers? |
