Cabins lets see em all this is my new one

http://i1250.photobucket.com/albums/...m/IMG_2601.jpg

I left the dennings cabin vacant this winter, not by my choice but at least the co's warned me mid summer so i purchased a 1974 rig shack and converted it to a trappers winter home. I gutted the trailer keeping the sink, 4 burner stove and oven and thats it. I have the bathroom as a cold storage, it is gutted to and most of our stuff goes in there when we get there, the food stays really cold even after 5 days. I have a good wood stove in the front and a small fan on top and even my little princess Ally (age 4) spent 10 nights this winter with me and the rest of the family. Russell (age 7) spent about 15 nights and I spent 38 nights this winter. The only thing i think would be better is that if December would come sooner :)

Nice getaway. I can see why you can't wait till December. :)

What was the problem with the CO?

South west trappin RG 05-05-2012 10:53 PM

It wasn't actually an issue with the CO. There are 3 quarters of private land in the middle of my line, that is where the cabin was. They let anyone use if for years, summer and winter and this year they decided to lock it up and put up private property signs, so I wasn't able to use it this year. It actually works out better with my trailer anyway.

Redfrog 05-05-2012 11:19 PM

Sure nothing wrong with this setup. Awesome country.:sHa_shakeshout:

Brian Bildson 05-06-2012 09:52 AM

Sweet looking. I'll post my Redrock cabin

SW trappin,

A Sidetrack first.... :)

Did something happen to cause a change in the landowner and Alberta parks agreement?

Is the landowner still allowing public access to/through their property?

Cool ( as in warm) cabin. How was your trapping season?

Very cool cabins Braggadoe.

A friend's trapping cabin in Alaska.

honda450 05-06-2012 01:53 PM

Not my cabin but one I found in my travels. Very remote. We were working near there and had built a ice road for our exploration program , don't think you can make it in there in the summer cept by argo or chopper.

How many have you got on both of your traplines? How many in the Willmore? I like your A Frame style. do you have a loft in it? I still have to figure out how to post pics here...we have three on our line..one main and two small line cabins. Our only access to the far line cabins is by helicopter. We flew in all the building materials to each one. Quite an adventure!! We usually spend two months on the upper end of the line and then finish off at the lower elevation end until wolf season ends.

12x16 luxury wilderness accommodations on 4 TWPs of far North Alberta. The walls are sinking so I guess something newer is due in the next few years. This one is about 30 yrs old or so. The one behind it is 70 or 80 years old, but it only has 2 walls and 10 percent of the roof left. Time to clean up.

what are the pro/cons of the a-frame?. never had any thing to do with them, just curious. just working on replaceing the one with the tarp over it in the above pic with this ten by twelve

We are also using an old camp shack modified for trapping. Our line cabin is a log cabin built in 2005. Still a couple old log cabins standing built by a trapper from the 60's. Can't get the pics to work...

Bragga...
ok... that mills looks like she produces nice stuff. What cc of saw is that and and do you use any [special] rip tooth chain?

ahem, any details on the mill build would be keenly gleaned:):)thx chain

thunderheart 05-11-2012 07:54 PM

great thread .. more info on that wondrous mill slide please mr B

braggadoe 05-13-2012 08:04 PM

i'm using 2 stihl 660's. the chain for ripping, that i like is 11 degree's.(bottom chain in the pic below) powerful saws for milling are a must.

Just got back from spending the weekend putting in a couple of bridges on my trapline. Here are a few photos. The first one is the cabin from a distance as you round the bend.

http://www.albertaoutdoorsmen.ca/ima...trapline-2.jpg

The next photo is of the cabin front.

Here is the sitting spot around the campfire after a hard day. And believe me, I worked my butt off this weekend.

And a couple of pics of the inside.

Unfortunately no, but I will take some when I'm in next time. Still have to complete one - I need it to be a little wider - and I haven't made up my mind where to put the third one yet. I'm trying to read the minds of beavers... My bridges certainly aren't as extravagant as yours (very nice I might add) but they will do the job for now.
