It is more then robbery.

My last month power and nat. gas statement (they do not call it a bill)was $236-paid. This month $451. Gas consumption $37.74, after add ons $166.22, power consumption $51.8 , after add ons $ 104.22. At the end of the statement there is Account Charges $175.18 That on top of multiple extra charges calculated before. All the utilities lines were build with taxes I have paid and resellers are charging me for using them.

The add ons they are charging us now are totally greed filled numbers...we just sold our 160 acres this past summer due to many things, but my biggest pet peeve was the high cost of extra items on our bills, we were paying twice the amount of service charges as to what our actual bill was. I believe some corruption is against us in all those false charges for nothing...now where I live and how I live...those charges are gone..I'm saving enough money on service charges alone that it pays my entire summer season at pigeon Lake golf course where our trailer is on a yearly lease...going off grid is a good thing!
Zip:)

I have 2 meters, 1 on the house 1 on the garage. Because of the equipment I had there was no way to run the garage as a sub off the house main. With all the 3p gear gone I am going to drop the garage meter and run off the house, which will save about $1400/yr. Plus the garage will be on the 17kw generator which is nice. It will only cost peanuts to switch compared to keeping the meter. The only thing that really uses power in the garage now is the air compressor.
Save money where we can. Power for the 2 meters was $298.00. It doesn't change much in summer, wifey loves the a/c.
I heated the 40x50x12 garage to 18.5 all month, house is 2800ft and gas for both was $156.00. It's the highest it has been in a while. I am dropping the garage to 17 for the next run and see if there is any difference.
I am with Direct Energy, switched away from DE Regulated services.

That's such a small part of the bill that it's very easy to overlook.

I’m eating a lot of crow ‘cause when the price went in the toilet, I blamed the government ...fair enough. But now the price is on the rise, I’m pretty sure they have nothing to do with it.

Just wait till Rachel has all the cheap coal fired electric generation shutdown. Wonder what Natural gas prices will do then??? We are burning mega gas on electric generation now. Oh wait....she will subsidize the natural gas price.....who is she fooling.....where does the subsidize money come from???

We're doomed :sHa_shakeshout:

Nothing to worry about unless you believe the NDP will be power for years and years .... UCP going to turn all that stuff around...right? Same like Trump in the US. Coal will be back!

What did it cost to get 3 phase power run out to your service pole meter, originally? And was it 480V or 208V?

Nothing. I had a rotary converter.

The gov't has a lot to do with the fact that WTI is north of $60,00/bbl. and WCS is bouncing around the mid 30's.

As much as I don't like the NDP it doesn't seem like they are the issue with that high bill ????

All those fees are simply a way for politicians to raise taxes without saying they are raising taxes.

If $18.74 of the $215.00 increase can be accounted for by the Carbon Levy ...no doubt somebody in addition to the government made some decent profit.

Yep. I don't love our current government, but they aren’t the reason we are paying a 300 percent markup on our utilities.

Big Grey Wolf 01-25-2018 09:05 AM

Thanks Kleiken for deregulating power, now we have 5 companies billing us each month rather than one like Epcor or Transalta in past. The most comical part is farmers payed to build rural power lines now they have to pay a monthly rental charge to have electricity delivered to their farm on the same lines.

The rise and fall of the price is and should be determined from the market. However, the PCs should have stepped in to slow down investment going back to the 80s. Over investment causes economic growth at an unsustainable rate that will eventually collapse if continually done. When I first moved here in 2008 grocery store cashiers were starting at $22 or more an hour which is just ridiculous.

dmcbride 01-25-2018 09:54 AM

How much of the bill is for the balancing pool that we are subsidizing over $2Billion because of the NDP's coal phase out.?

That's the cost of privatization....
