Porcupine
I have a porcupine living underneath an elevator in my yard, I am worried my dog will get all quilled up from it. What is the best way or thing to get it out to eliminate it.
Grain, Corn??? Any thoughts?? |
My dad had one living under their deck. He was told to hang a bunch of rags soaked in ammonia around. Apparently porcupines dont like the smell (who does) and they leave. He hung some rags and then took a big long stick and poked at him until he left....and never came back.

Maybe smoke him out somehow. But I would make sure to kill him, not hope he moves on. Pulling quills from a dog is no fun.

Porky
I use a fishing net. Then take them for a quad ride to the back 40 and let them go.

Just catch him and drive him out in the country away from everyone, and set him free.

leaf blower or air compressor, or smoke. Whack porky over the head. Wrap with copper wire, set on a piece of plywood, connect to battery. Allow dog to sniff....mild zap...won't sniff them ever again but sure will bark at them angrily from a healthy distance.

Maybe we should take them to the zones where some of our fellows are still hunting and braving the weather:) If you have dogs as I do, I vote for shoot em! |
We used to get them in the machine sheds/barn lots. Cornered them in the evening with a barrel on its side (we used to use smaller Gulf barrels). Tip it up and put it in the truck. Take them a long ways away.

Getting quills out of dog nose is easy, try removing them from a curious horses nose. If they are anywhere near your horses better give them the 22 pill. You will regret it if you do not!
