5hp propane outboard
 

Since I cancelled my cable, I now watch the occasional boating show on peasantvision and they showed this little guy. Sounds like a really neat idea especially for a little 14' aluminum boat that my car could haul.

They say you can fish all day and power the stove for your shore lunch. Sounds pretty flexible, I like the sounds of it.

Anyone have experience or thoughts on these little motors? Reliable? Good enough for Alberta lakes? Is a 20lb tank gonna last long enough?

Yup....saw it in a boating show....very cool!

It will always be a hassle if you run out, and there is no way to tell tank volume remaining accurately, but 10 hours WOT is pretty long run time anyway!

If it came out as a 9.9 it would have a much bigger following, so maybe in the future we will see this idea expanded.

As a Propane 4 stroke, it will last a very long time though!

This has been around for at least 10 years - in Europe.

Lehr has been producing propane outboards for many years with excellent reviews from what I can see.

The go up to 25 hp.

As for seeing how much propane you have left, they do make gauges, and you could always bring a camping bottle, or use 2 10lb bottles (although harder to get filled) 20lb exchange tanks are everywhere now.

One thing about propane as a motor fuel, the Carb does not gum up from sitting over winter.

The 15 HP is a bit heavy at 110 Pds, but not really much different from what alot of other 4 strokes weigh in at.

Still will be a problem for a week long trip to the coast as gas is common, propane is not.

Is a 5hp motor enough for some of the bigger lakes in Alberta or are you gonna be panicking when the clouds roll in and the waves start kicking up?

Of course 5 hp is too small.

This is Alberta!!! Go Big or Go Home!!

But the 15 hp as a long leg has me tickled!!
