deer on the lake

I fished Gull this afternoon, landed a small walleye but otherwise pretty slow. As we left we were scanning the ice to see who might be left out there and spotted a dog in the distance. "I wonder who he belongs to?" We were a long way apart, but on a collision course. As we got closer to one another I realized that this was actually a whitetail doe. It looks like it crossed the whole lake, I'd say from just north of Brownloughs by that light house to Wilson beach where we were. Anyone else see deer cross lakes in the winter?

Several years ago I came across a whitetail buck that had broken through the ice on Fawcett Lake. Near the south shore on the west end. He had been there awhile as the scavengers had eaten a lot of it.
I've seen moose and deer crossing frozen lakes a few times over the years too

I have seen deer cross a lake I single file twice. Once at Miller lake and once at spring. Never thought they did that but seein was believing

Growing up I was always told that a horse will not go onto a frozen lake

I was out at halfmoon last weekend and there was one set of pretty fresh moose tracks right across the lake.

That is interesting. My Great-Grandfather ran a team of horses in Northern BC. He lost them through the ice on Tchesinkut lake, where he lived. Dad said it devastated him both financially and mentally.

Saw a dead deer in the ice at Travers last year. A bald eagle was defending it from a horde of crows.
