Coyote Calling!!

5 Attachment(s)
Hello Everyone,

I am new to the AO forums so please allow me to introduce myself, My name is Nowell I'm for Saskatoon Saskatchewan, love to hunt migratory birds and Coyotes, It just never gets old watching them come in!

The coyotes here in Saskatchewan have been calling fairly well, these below 30 nights followed by some rather warm days have definatley contributed to the numbers.

The season started rather slow, it just seemed like the coyotes didn't want to move in the warmer November/ December weather we've experienced this winter. Right after we had a few extremely cold -40 nights I began calling with much better success... seems like now the dogs are responding to distress calls as well as territorial calls... the female invitation seems to be bringing them in as well.

So far we've got 32 this season. Our best day we shot 5 dogs.. Although we have had decent success bringing them in I still tend to miss my fair share of yotes! :angry3:

Fortunately we have only had 4 dogs with shoulder mites... unlike some of the other hunters and fur trappers in the area, who haven't been as fortunate throwing away close to 50% of there dogs...

But thats enough about my success, lets hear it from the other dog hunters out there! Who's out calling and what success have you had this season? How is the Fur?

Cheers,
Straight Rippin

Welcome. Looks like you know what your doing. What rifle and scope is that in the 3rd pic.

Looks like a RPR in .223. Possibly a vortex scope.

Thanks for sharing your pix.. Nice hides on those dogs, very bushy and nice size!

How 1500 22-250

Thank you. The rifle is a Howa 1500 20" bbl dropped into a MDT LSS Chassis, for glass I have a Vortex viper PST 4-16. I skim bedded the rifle and it shoots well if i do my part, I can't complain.

Great stuff! Which caller are you using?

StraightRippin 01-21-2018 09:43 AM

Primos Alpha Dogg

I use the Primos Alpha Dogg and a old Howler Boy hand Call. The E-caller works well, I've downloaded a few different distress calls off of primos just to switch the sounds up abit. I have noticed once the batteries get to about 50% the sound does have some distortion...The Howler Boy hand call is great for producing high pitched pup howls, distress calls and pup distress sounds.

Coyote calling

Welcome to the forum. We have taken 46 coyotes so far this season. Unfortunately we have had 14 with mites, that had to be discarded. I give they to a local Hutterite kid to practise his skinning skills on.

Coyote Calling!!

WOW you guys clearly know what you are doing 46 is a lot of work! did you get any doubles? triples? we haven't shot a double yet this year.. they have been all singles which is odd.

A lady we have around here will buy dogs for 20$ with mites. better than nothing I suppose.
