Coyote population is down in numbers
 

Now that we’ve had snow for a few days I am disappointed at the lack of tracks and trails especially since I have been managing bait stations since mid August

Are there lots of gut piles from hunting or maybe discarded carcasses in the ditch? I’ve seen coyotes in the fields all through harvest but not hanging snares at bait sites until Wednesday.

I have never managed my bait stations so early in the season expecting every coyote within 10 miles to be held at that location and kept healthy till trapping season. So far I don’t believe there is any benefit to this practice. No shortage of ravens - is it legal to shoot them ... like crows ?

On deeded (private) land

could be just your area or an influx of big game bait piles and pressure. so far i have seen good numbers and lots of new pups in my area.

I do lots of driving between Lloyd and Edmonton for work. Always see lots, especially now that the fields have now in them, they really stand out.

Around here in farmland the coyotes are territorial and will attack trespassing coyotes to chase them out. The only Yotes that hit my bait are the local ones in that territory and the occasional transient coyote this time of year. You might catch a dozen fat coyotes and then things will go quiet.......lol.
