3.6L GM. Are they as bad as they say?

Looking at a 2012 Buick Enclave. Low km 140k. I’ve read some horror stories about this engine. Is there a particular year where GM improved the timing chain issue or did they ever do a mod program for these units

Should I run away??

Thanks everyone

The 4 cly's have more problems
The 3.6 had a few bad years not sure what years you can google those up.

On the earlier models 2010-2013 timing chains were a problem oil consumption on some years.

I have a 2016 80KMs no problems so far never need the add oil between changes

My 2010 got to about 180,000 and the lifters were shot. It always used oil on the highway but not in the city, I sold it and took a bit of a bath to get it gone.

I had an 09 3.6 that had the timing chain slip at 100k which was a costly fix to get the upgraded chain put in about $1200 I think. That was the only issue I had with the vehicle till I sold it

Run away!

I had a 1998 Olds I bought with 30,000K. I put 400,000 on it in about 6 years. Only fix was the head gasket. Still did not burn oil at 400,000. Used regular oil and changed it every 12,000 KLms as all miles were highway. It got 30 mpg on the highway and geared just right for great acceleration from 90 to 140 kph. Perfect for passing on the narrow 2 lanes of northern Alberta. Gave it to my nephew who drove it another 5 years till the tranny finally gave out, he was NOT easy on the car.

Although I would never choose a Buick (on looks alone, lol) they seem good 'if' looked after/oil often changed..
