Raccoon bow kill

2 Attachment(s)
Here is a Raccoon that I shot while Antelope hunting in zone 152 last week.
I went after him in a field and he was hiding behind some tall grass.
He was facing me at the shot and wow....
RAGE 2 blade+PSE OMEN= First Raccoon.

The Rage severed his arm off and split his side wide open.
It was a 12" cut....half the length of his body.
Crazy carnage from that broad head.

:budo:

winged1 10-08-2010 07:52 AM

ahh, a baby 'coon. Did he snarl and hiss, or wimper and cry?

many consider them a pest, so good on you.

fish_e_o 10-08-2010 08:15 AM

good on you. keep those things out of alberta

DAVE 10-08-2010 08:59 AM

Hey sonny j i know were there are 4 in the garbage can if you want.

220swifty 10-08-2010 09:06 AM

I was in 152 for antelope yesterday, and the landowner instructed me to shoot them on sight. I only managed 2 coyotes though, and left em where they dropped. Anyone want to saddle up on the high horse and bitch at me for that?

Nice work, i was hoping to spot one with the 22 mag, i have an open place by the fireplace for a raccoon sized mount.

Job Well Done !!!
Some morons out West here are shooting the Black Masked Bandits with field points and then the antis get a hold of the wounded critter running through the n'hood with an arrow stuck in its hide, they show it on the evening news.
That really ****es me off.
So, did you get your Speed Goat yet ?
Good Hunting and Straight Flying Sticks,
Rob

FishBrain 10-08-2010 09:25 AM

Nice shooting!!!
He's dead, nuff said
looks like it was a quick kill, not sure what to complain about that

Gilly 10-08-2010 09:25 AM

lol

Nice work. I been trapping coons since spring. Got about 30 or so. once they get used for training my hounds they are dispatched skinned and put in the freezer for future training. Coons here are hard on the pheasants and ducks. Real nuisance. I help landowners get rid of em and get to train some hounds. So works out real good for me. Landowners are more than happy to have them removed from thier properties. In fact this weekend we are doing a bunch of coon huntn and gettin some pups started. its gonna be a good time! The only good ringtail is a dead one!!!!:47b20s0:

Just because we don't see a whole lot of 'em doesn't mean they're not varmints, and some people do eat them.

It's not too hard to find a Cajun recipe for them, but it seems to me like unless we all start eating every gopher we shoot then what's the problem?

They're super destructive in other provinces.

I think it is cool as well but I am not too sure on the LEGALITY part of it. Is it not considered a fur bearing animal? Does he have a trappers license? I could care less about the pest but not sure if it is legal or not and not about to make any calls to find out either.
Good Job sniper. Cool to get it with the bow as well

They may be hunted but not trapped anywhere in the province, it is in the regulations.

DNORTHERNSNIPER 10-08-2010 01:05 PM

Raccoon

The landowners we got permission for Antelope said to get rid of any Coyotes and Raccoons if we saw them. The 1 lady had Racooons eat all her carrots and half of her garden she tried to grow all summer. And Coyotes killed her 2 cats.

I can now make that Davey Crockett hat that I have always
Wanted and I had some great coonkabobs that tasted like chicken.
Lol.....

Good to know. Never seen one myself in Alberta but if i do I will have to give him a piece of lead!

Nice when the farmers tell you to shoot em all eh!!!!:)

I don't think we want Coons all over ALberta. I lived in California for a couple years and boy they were a pain.
Good luck with the hat making

dogboy 10-08-2010 01:50 PM

Maybe it doesn't. Maybe chicken actually tastes like raccoon and we've been wrong all these years.

thebuckshow 10-08-2010 06:18 PM

That is definately a cool bow kill. If the anti's want something they can come watch me kill hundreds of gophers every summer. I think they would cry at some of that carnage before they cry about one racoon. Now I want to hunt racoon...

eurekacreek22 10-08-2010 11:25 PM

Ive heard of people eating porcupine, muskrat, beaver, and now coons.. must be hungry country lol. I tried rabbit this year. it tastes like coon haha
