Anybody here know whether a guys' grades get listed by Fur Harvesters compared to what NAFA used to do? This winter was the first I sent to fur harvesters. Wondering if grades are available, will be available, or are even listed ahead of time at all??
If they are, how do you go about accessing it? Pretty much like starting from scratch now in that regard. |
FHA Preliminary Offering - April '21
Call your shipping agent and ask for your account number. You can then take the account number and go to the FHA site to make an account. About a week before the auction, the grades are posted on your account, with the lot number it is in for the sale.
Guess that answers the question on how many guys sent in coyotes. Not very many, with only 30,000 on auction. |
Ya that ain't very many coyotes, especially considering in eastern ones.
|
Not sure what you mean by considering in eastern ones.

Gotcha 👍🏻
|
Goes to show especially in coyotes how many are being picked up by private buying as opposed to sending to auction.
|
Anyone ever think that the harvest could be off?
|
Marty what’s the story that GWF has jumped ahead of fur harvesters and is having a auction in Cambodia where the are selling 80,000 coyotes and a large collection of fox. Should be good for GWF as the borders are open for buyers, but how will it effect the FH auction. Just thinking this large collection might not be the best thing right now, or then again it might set some good prices.
|
Where in the heck did you hear that?
|
I heard they where holding an auction overseas but not the location or country. Rumour or truth cannot say.

Got the information from 2 good sources. One is a buyer who has been invited to the sale.

well that's interesting, Having my coyotes all though not many sitting at fha waiting for the auction I cant say I'm very happy about that.

Times are tough and I understand why some Trappers need money ASAP rather than waiting a couple of months for auction. I hope to hell that this isn’t the beginning of a trend though. If Trappers stop supporting FHA and it folds, we’ll go back to being at the mercy of buyers as it was decades ago. That’s why FHA was created by Trappers in the first place. They were tired of being raped by “Take it or leave it” buyers.
Fur auctions dictate the market prices and without FHA Trappers will never again see $140 averages on Western Heavies. It’ll be $90 - $100 averages forever if we’re lucky. Buyers can’t be blamed to buy at $100 and resell the same pelts at $140, it’s just good business. The blame will lie with Trappers for not supporting FHA. Unless you’re starving, facing eviction or something else that you need money immediately for, Trappers really need to send their fur to FHA. More fur attracts more buyers......More buyers bidding on your fur equals more money for your fur. Without FHA we are hooped. Think about it. |
Buyers vs auction
Just gonna throw my 2c into this.
I find sending fur to auction can be a bit of a gamble, generally speaking it is better money then selling to most fur buyers. Selling to a buyer you do have the option of saying no i do not agree to said price and you can walk away. The auction could sell your fur for pennies and there is nothing you can do but cash your pennies. In theory if all of our fur went to auction then that's where all the buyers would have to go and we as the trappers would hope for the highest possible prices. I see a need for both. My hesitation with auctions has came since nafa fell out and for some reason just before they fell out I sold my fur to a buyer for the first time and did very well. Before things went sideways everyone was predicting record prices and i was regretting my decision but once things fell out I didnt regret it at all. I prefer the fur buyer route now because of the uncertainty of the auctions especially being online and if I don't like the price for my furs i can say no where with an auction you are at the mercy of what the bid lands at. At the moment i do have a handful of coyotes, beavers and rats in the April auction but i did sell over 60% of my fur to a buyer due to the uncertainties and i was happy with the price i got from the fur buyer. I do hope the best for the fur market but things are whack right now and I am a firm believer in not having all my eggs in one basket. |
I think we all suffering from PN-Virus
Nothing like canine AC virus... that very deadly. But PN-Virus more affecting the brain, causing despondency-depression, headaches/bellyaches (from related alcohol over-consumption etc |
So is it true Marty? Are you allowed to say anything about this supposed auction.
|
Sold almost all my coyotes this year to a private buyer, sent 20 to FHA for first sale ..I did alright with the buyer but if the borders were open the hides would have all gone to auction, just never know how online sale will go .

Nafa left a bad taste in my mouth after I received an NSF cheque for 1200$. Thinking of shipping to FHA as prices buyers are paying seem to be on the low end
|
Dont be too hard on NAFA, it was CIBC that stole your money. They told NAFA to go ahead with the sale and that they’d honour the cheques. CIBC only honoured the cheques for one day.
First recent catastrophic event for the fur industry.... has Great Reset stench all over it. Second, wipe out 17 million mink that would have been easily treated/cured. |
I guess its a good business move for groeny, Fha has to be suffering with their expansions and covid hurting the auction. If groeny could kill fha hed have the market to himself. Yes Marty we know you dont want that blah blah weird how you wont anwser the question about the auction is it that secret or what.
|
Kingrat, you whine/snivel far too much. Im kinda busy these days for some unknown reason, to put my head anywhere significant.
Cambodia... it looks like the fur industry is in a state of evolving/morphing into it’s next chapter. Interesting! GFW is not trying to kill FHA. What a stupid thing to say. GFW is a very professional fur buying company and was previously believed to be NAFA’s largest competitor. GFW is trying to do their part to ensure that wild fur has a future. This business is too small to have enemies. GFW is a true asset to our wild fur industry. They are not some fly-by-night low life goon squad outfit trying to fill their pockets with cash. My understanding was that the long range NAFA plan was to move to the orient and begin having sales in China. In these pseudo -pandemic times, i believe Cambodia was likely chosen due to fears that China could at any time ban import of raw fur due to raw state fur being per perceived as being capable of carrying viruses , but dont quote me on that, my personal speculation. Tanned fur would have the critters cooked out of it and moves across borders unihibited. Again, all my speculations. ps... PN = Post NAFA!!! Post-NAFA Syndrome??? Disease??? |
Ok previously nafa biggest competitor you say.
So now they are fha biggest competitor than right. What business doesnt want to crush their competitor? Give me a break Marty, you ain't fooling anyone, and sorry if my honest question which you wont anwser is considered whining by the almighty fat man. |
I do need to go on a diet.
In todays fur business, I m certain GFWs goal is not to destroy FHA or anybody else, we are a fragile industry and there is strength in numbers. A few coyotes ending up in another market isnt going to destroy anybody. FHA is offering more coyotes than they ever have in history this season and last undoubtably. |

This is the offering now, is it any different than the preliminary?
https://www.furharvesters.com/pdf/offering.pdf Davey, feel like giving us the play by play of normal Nafa first sale offering vs this current FHA offering? I see 400 wolves, seems small, 15000 wild mink seems like lots, marten numbers seems low and lynx too? I thought they had mountains of lynx. Thot they was buried in fur? Better phone a friend... |

I get that, is the actual much different than the projected?
