Some good news...
Its nice to see a positive article written by someone in the know. The speculation of a few buyers and nay-sayers seems to have dominated the fur outlook lately.

Yikes!
How do you guys make a living! Last time I sold fur I was getting a $40.00 average on Beaver, $75.00 average on Marten, top Fisher that year brought me $350.00. Coyote were down, $25.00 tops and $15.00 to $20.00 for Fox. But we don't have big populations of either. Marten, Fisher and Beaver were our meat and potatoes. Some years Lynx were plentiful and at times fetched upwards of $1000.00 The last year I trapped the numbers were down and I only caught one Small Lynx that year and it got chewed up by mice. I had next to no Mink and Muskrat on my line so they didn't even factor in. Did okay on Squirrels and Weasel but again not a big money maker. I did get three Bear that fall and their hides brought in an extra $500.00. Wolves were few and far between. As were Wolverine. I didn't get either that year. But costs were far less then they are today. I think that winter I was paying 64 cents a liter for gas. I didn't get rich that winter but I kept up with the bills and we did have kids at home yet. Still, I can't imagine trying to pay today's bills with the prices you guys are getting. |
^ Agreed.
If that article is good news for you guys trapping, I don’t think I would want to hear the bad news. |
