Waterfowl Hunting Access
Hi All,
Has anyone got permission to hunt on colony owned land? If so can you give me some tips on how to go about getting permission? I'm looking at some prospective hunting spots but it appears to be majorly owned by colonies. Thanks in Advance, Big Shooter |
From my experience.... face to face meetings are best.
Colony people are great people. Ask someone to find out who’s I. Charge of that stuff.... and you’ll more than likely be successful. I’d go in August cause you’ll probably leave with a carload of great veggies!!! Usually they charge 6-7$ per chicken too.... yum! |
See what Bessie says, just drive out to Colony and ask. As usual have your information on a card or such and record the phone numbers and when and who gave permission.

When I was up to hunt a few years ago we asked a colony for permission.
The guy we were chatting with paused for a few seconds before saying "sure, but there's one rule.... you kill every one of those ****ing things" |
I hunt geese on three different colony properties. Have never been refused and in my experience are hospitable and friendly people.

Some colonies will even give you permission for land that they don’t own or rent. And yes I’m speaking from experience. With the right gift they will even guide you.

Find birds. Look at county map or find the closest homestead. Knock on the door or look up the number of the landowner in the phone book. Ask politely for permission. Shoot a limit of birds. Clean up your shells. Repeat
