Eskimo M43

Just Purchased an Eskimo Mako43, 10 inch auger on sale. The manual says to mix 20:1 to break in the Engine then run 25:1. There is another manual on line that says 50:1. I spoke to a few fishing places and they tell me to run 40:1.
Not sure which mix to go with. I do not want to ruin my new auger.
Does anyone know what the proper mix should be.

Your physical manual says 20/25:1? Or that is just what you saw in one of the manuals that pops up in a google search?

Since it is a new auger it should be 50:1. Your physical manual should say this and I believe it is printed on the gas cap as well. The manual that shows up in google search stating 20:1 then 25:1 is from 2004 so obviously outdated and not for the current viper engines which are all 50:1.

Edit: If you physical manual says 20/25 then call Eskimo give them your serial number and ask them to confirm what ratio you should be using.

It depends what oil you have to. You can have designed to for 20:1 or to 100:1. But to me 20:1 is to rich! I would go 50:1 that's what my Eskimo z71 auger says to run.

Yes the Manual in the box says 20:1 for break in and 25:1 after that.
Strange that They would place the out dated manual in the box.
Thx for the help. I will call them

I will have a look at the auger tonight to see if it has the mix ratio on it.
I just purchased this auger at the Canadian tire sale last week. Strange that it has the wrong manual in the box.

Mine got 50-1 on the gas cap . That's what I've been running for two years , with no issues .

Opti 2

Just mix a batch of Opti 2 and forget about it. Many of us on this forum have been using it for years and forget about the recommendations mix. One mix and you can use it in all your man toys.
I use the same mix in my 2 augers, Stihl backpack blower, Toro snow blower, Husky chainsaw, and weed wacker. No need to change mixes for different engines. Buy it at all the good quality lawn care and repair shops.

Only 2 things you need to know.

Mix a gallon of premium fuel and Opti2 and you're set

Or

Premixed aspen fuel.

Can get both at the lawn mower hospital in Edmonton.

My eskimo is 50:1. Printed in the auger.

I run 40 : 1 in my M43. No problem in over 5 years. I would put a few extra drops of oil in the first 1/4 tank of fuel in the auger . Mix your jerry can with 40 or 50 to 1 your choice as it would be fine with either. 25 to 1 would be too rich and would probably smoke a lot and foul spark plugs and have starting problems.

In the first 1/4 tank in the auger, put a few extra drops of oil in it. Just for the first few starts and runs.

I wonder if they say 25 to 1 because of ethanol in fuel these days ? Ethanol is bad !

I only use Shell premium with no ethanol in all my toys as well as Seafoam.

I like opti ran it for years in my in Banshee at 100:1 with no issues. But now I run stihl oil cause I got a stihl chainsaw, weed eater, and blower. And you get a second year of warranty if you buy a case of oil. So I need to burn that oil lol
