Dave good to see only modest sable, fisher, fox and lynx numbers. It could mean some decent prices. Lots of coyote though on this sale. but prices have been holding up on previous covid sales.

I thought they would postpone it a month or two and wait for the border to open, to have a real auction. But I guess who knows with moron, it could be shut for another year.

Here’s hoping the border will be opened, think there’s a chance it will be.

More Western coyotes on this upcoming sale. Found out that there is more AB and SK heavies, and an increased supply from Montana, Wyoming and Dakotas... Semi and Heavy

For me I like the slight increase of coyote pelts offered. My thinking is more pelts = attracting more international buyers bidding against each other. Maybe my logic is flawed but I doubt that you’ll see many international buyers interested in small county auctions. A reputation of having a hundred thousand + coyote pelts per season would be great IMO.

I decided to send all of my fur to FHA this year as I expect prices to POP as this pandemic winds down. Online sales have been strong and sooner or later it’s going to happen. One thing that I considered doing, but didn’t, was holding all of my fur for the second auction as the first one was too soon. I wonder if other Trappers didn’t do that which would explain the increase of coyote pelts this auction.

To my way of thinking, an extra 8,693 coyotes isnt going to make a spit of difference. What will make the difference is what percentage of country goods have found their fur-ever homes and what percentage has not. That info is generally difficult to obtain. If the county collections, some massive, are all eaten up by hungry dealers, and their appetite has not been satiated, then this upcoming sale has the potential to be decent. I'd be quite happy to see a $120 Section 1 coyote in July.

Currently the coyote market is ALL CHINA. Various reliable sources tell me that Italy, home of Rebellato Graziano and other "high end users", is very quiet, no business, next to nothing going on.

It is Italy and other such high fashion users that have the deep pockets needed to push the price of coyotes and other articles to the moon. No Italy? No Europe, no USA? no big dollars. No "pushers" just bargain hunting folks. Ex... coyote top lot price.

The money people aren't just sitting there waiting for covid to end so they can blow mind blowing amounts of money. They are sitting there tho, just sitting there looking stupid, locked down, helpless as they watch their businesses stagnate. Our industry is in a bad spot. Except China... strange huh? I'm not going there, big gray doggie not want to hear it... woof woof woof

Last FHA sale, likely price/demand was helped by the fact that the majority of the country goods had not yet found their fur-ever homes. I suspect now that the bulk of the saleable goods are bought up and much demand has likely been satisfied???

Hate to be sounding like a pessimist, but do call me a realist. What I am not is somebody stuck in some baseless delusion fanaticizing about old times.

$90-105 cash in hand months ago sounds pretty fair with no deductions, fees, shipping, NO RISK etc. The $120 CDN Section 1 coyote of the last sale take home pay was $105.00 before tax!!!

But goooooooo FHA! I am rooting for you. I really do hope we see some pleasant surprises, and hope these Chinese folks start fighting over the kiyutes like a bunch of Americans!!!!

Coincidentally, I just submitted my newest article for the ATA magazine... due in July. It is called "Last One Standing" and tells the story of Fur Harvesters Auction. I learned a lot about the auctions history and challenges over the years- and was able to source some great pictures to go with it.

I had completely forgot about SARS in 2003 and how that affected the Ontario based fur auctions at the time. The solution would be found in B.C. that year.... with FHA anyways.

I asked Mark Downey about the new relative success with online auctions, and asked whether this was the future now, or some type of live/online auction? Was a little surprised with the steadfast commitment to a LIVE fur auction, complete with hype and competition. This is what FHA really wants to return to!

Does anyone know if Buyers from other countries with vaccinations can come across the border? They should normally be considered Business travelers that come to Canada to buy our oldest natural resources.

All the fisher sold but at low $25US average, marten/sable unsold, being reoffered. It appears still bottom 'feeders' buying low cost fur, will not pay good money$$ for larger good quality sable.
