Corlane Mountain Rifle
 

Just got her back from Corlane. Turned the original 700 Ti 270 cal into a 280 AI. Should be breaking it in by the weekend.
Breakdown:

24" Pacnor Super Match Barrel
Fluted (6) and powder coated
Accurized action
Sleeved bolt
Bedded and floated

I also added VX111 B&C 4.5-14 x 40 and talley lightweights. Loaded up some Nosler BT's and am ready to fireform and break it in.

Anyway, here are a couple of pics. Pretty happy with the result so far, but will have to range test.

Too much...but it looks good, feels good and will hopefully shoot good for years to come. If it does, I will be sending them another Ti I have.

Sweet looking rig. Corlane's / Rocky Mountain Rifles do grea work. Barrel looks similar to my Sako m75SS 300WM that I bought from Corlane's in 1998 and had the factory barrel flutes and the flutes teflon coated and the rest of barrel polished.

I'm waiting for mine back from Corlane's-was hoping to have it already to take to moose camp this weekend. Mine is a Sako m75 Greywolf that was a new 25-06 and will be a 338-06AI with a 24" PacNor barrel, fluting, flutes powdercoated gunmetal grey and the rest of the barrel bead-blasted to look like factory stainless look. Will have a Leupold VX3 3.5-10x40 BC gunmetal grey scope mounted in Sako Optilok rings & bases.

I seen a helical flute job they did and was very tempted but went with the straight flutes- just with a bigger cut.

She weighs in at 7lbs 2oz with the VX111 and talleys.

Did Corlane spiral flute the bolt? Last I spoke with them they only did straight flutes on bolts.

Nope, the Ti's come that way from factory. The spirals create a great place for pine needles to settle in. :sick: But they do make the rifle look good.

Went to the range this evening. Started to break the barrel in and fireform the AI's. I was very impressed to say the least. Began by shooting 1 and cleaning for the first 15, then groups of 3 and clean. After cleaning, it shot one flyer and 2 within .5". The last group I shot 5, there was one flyer and 4 in .75" or better. I am sure it will do better once I start load development now that I have the brass in shape.

Very nice rifle, and sounds like it will be a shooter!

Made it to the range again. It shot 0.61" CTC and 0.66 CTC at 206yds. I think I am going to like this rifle. We will see how it performs on game.

Nice to hear the Pac-Nor is working for you. I have one ready to be installed onto one of my LR rigs - can't wait.

What wt bullet and what's the twist. Very nice rifle, by the way. I had a 280 AI done last year and it busted a cpl of bucks quite nicely.

How long was the wait?

I dropped a rifle (well, a barrelled action) off last December and it's still not done...:(

They do, do great work, though, maybe it is worth the wait?

What load were you shooting? I picked up some 140 Berger VLD's for my 280AI that I'm going to play around with this winter.

I have a 1:9 on this rifle.
I am shooting 140gr Nosler Accubonds with 60g of IMR 4831 and a cci 200 primer.
No signs of pressure so if I get some more time I will run 'em up some more.

not a whole bunch of info on Corlanes website, does anyone know if they have panflets or anything with more detail. or is it best to just phone them. also what about turn around time. thanx for any info

Phone them up and talk to them. The turn around time after hunting season should be better. I sent mine in at the end of July and received it back September 24. I thought that was pretty damn good turn around time.
