Chain lakes res or McGregor

I'm hoping to take the wife out south of Calgary this weekend. It's the first time this year that we've been able to have someone watch the kids so she can come out.
Typically, if the kids come, we adults can't get much fishing in on account of wanting the kids to enjoy the experience.

Well, this weekend it'll just be the wife and I. She's never caught a fish through the ice, and would be absolutely thrilled if she did.

So here are my questions:
Should I take her to chain lakes reservoir or McGregor?
Has anyone been on the ice in either location recently?
How are the conditions?
Do we have better odds of her catching something at chain lakes?

Thanks,

-ChillyPete

Thanks for the suggestion. I've never fished a derby before. I'll consider it.
What's the fishing like on twin valley? Is pike the only fish there?

You’ll have more luck for numbers at chain, my buddy has been doing alright with velveeta cheese there.

Fun lake and a good scrappy size this season, really good ice, 24". Fish no more than 8 feet of water.

Yesterday they were biting in 12 to 14 FOW Nothing even showed on sonar in 2 7ft holes I fished for the first hour.

Might just be the old full moon because I usually only fish in 10ft and under

Interesting how everyone has their prefered depth,, sorry that you only got onto some in the 58cm range, ours were all in the 70+ cm range.
