Anyone getting excited yet?

I'm surprised there isn't many threads going yet for this upcoming season. 3 weeks left and I'm getting pretty excited! September 2 leave for archery elk/moose hunt we're going to the same place we went last year. It was our first year in the area. We put over 100 Kms on our boots learning the area and finding where the animals were. I came very close on two moose, one I stalked to 34 yards from 400, and I had another moose at 10 yards. Unfortunately I got busted both times when I got to half draw. Had a bunch of elk encounters but nothing I could close the deal on. My hunting partner eventually took a cow elk.

All in all it wasn't until our last day of hunting when the bulls started coming to calls but this year we now know exactly where to go to find them so I have high hopes.

I'm starting to focus a lot more on archery than rifle. Maybe even losing interest in rifle all together. My bow isnt quite ready to go yet as I've been playing with tuning it which is completely new to me. But I've got a lot more days at the range to get her dialled in, in the next couple weeks.

Maybe a bit early, but good luck to everyone with whatever you're hoping to achieve this year.

Came back from summer vacation and noticed the birch leaves are starting to turn. Getting stoked for the archery opener

katts69 08-07-2017 08:31 PM

Stoked. Leave aug 24 going back after this ram that gave us the slip last year.

I've got a Hoyt power max. Mid range bow but I actually really love it the more I shoot and learn the inner workings of archery. I've got my eye on a couple of other bows I might look at next year as a second bow.

Passthru 08-07-2017 09:29 PM

Sept.1-4 I'll be in my tree. I will have redemption.

Archery can be very rewarding, I may go and fill elk tag opening day with rifle been invited on a sheep hunt and may take the offer so get elk out of the way

katts69, go get him. Can't wait to read the story and see final pics on here. That's a dandy ram!

The moose 08-07-2017 11:09 PM

Found a group of whity bucks tonigh. 10 bucks in total 3 over 150, one i think will push 175. 6x5 with great height and mass. I would shoot 7of the 10 in the group. All feeding in a oat crop that will be left as standing grazing pasture (if there is any left) trail cams are showing strong activity in area and in daylight hours! Im super pumped to say the least

Bleat bear

Going after black bear for the first time I'm both nervous and excited....:scared0018:
my dad doesn't want to join in the experience so I'm going in solo :fighting0030:
Wish me luck

Kurt505 08-08-2017 09:18 AM

Knocked the dust off my bow, got rid of my ring rust, I'm all ready to go.... I'm just not to anxious yet. Maybe after a few days scouting I'll be a bit more hyped up.

BH3500 08-08-2017 09:28 AM

Opening day can't come fast enough! Nothing quite like being deep in the bush chasing critters for a couple months. Good luck to everyone!

mgvande 08-08-2017 09:32 AM

Heading into northern BC to accompany a buddy for goat and sheep next week. Looks like rain is in my future according to the forecast.

There's plenty of bears around this year so many berries you'll do just fine. I'm only after blonde or chocolate coloured bears now that I harvested my black one this spring

Headed for sheep on Aug24th. Going for 11 days with my horses.
Hope to get in close and get one with my old 54cal smoke pole.
Can't wait

elkhunter11 08-08-2017 12:19 PM

I ordered up to date maps for the pronghorn hunt, and am ramping up training with the dog. Need to shoot my 7mmstw more, and then I will be ready. Going to be my last pronghorn hunt, and my friends first moose hunt.

Now that is sheep hunting. I hope you get one with your muzzleloader. I'm going for elk with a martini this year.

Get ur walking boots ready! I was out getting permission and spotting today for antelope and all owners I talked to aren't allowing any vehicles even on well roads. It's park on the country roads and walk it's so dry out.

Lukesky 08-08-2017 06:33 PM

Same here.. I'm still relatively new to hunting and am going to do some elk hunting on my own as my couple friends that are seasoned hunters don't have as lenient as a job as I do for time off. Bow is tuned and ready to party ... now just to hopefully find something to shoot it at!

greywolf 08-08-2017 07:06 PM

getting excited, yep,
Moose in October;
Bison in December!!:)

That actually sounds great, hunting instead of trucks chasing them around. I'm sure elk11 won't have a problem. Wish I could have pulled a tag this year as that would be an awesome experience.

As for the original question...going bonkers. Feel like a lab watching a duck pond. Shooting, training, talking, scouting, even dreaming about it. Can't wait :sHa_shakeshout:

Archery mule deer, and maybe elk. Don't know how I keep getting talked into the wild goose chase that is elk hunting, but here we go again

Anotherkiwi 08-09-2017 02:23 AM

I'm getting very excited! Next month I'll be on my first hunting trip to Canada and I've been counting down the days like a kid at Xmas :)

If it stays this dry, I will take my mountain bike along for my scouting. Way faster than walking.

I'm getting excited moved to east central sask this spring An have few spots I'm going to hunt for whitetail got a nice wide 4/4 on camera regular so hoping to get first sask whitetail with bow

Hogie135 08-09-2017 07:42 AM

I should've added to my original post that aside from my upcoming Elk/Moose hunt I'm super excited to try and go strictly bow for this season right up until it gets too cold for it. I may take a buddy of mine out during the whitetail rut and try and call him in a buck. Would be a first experience for him as he is mostly a road hunter. I talked him into trying my kind of hunt, get into the woods and stalk:) We'll see how he does.

LeroyvdH 08-09-2017 07:50 AM

Hoping to get out ifin the fire bans are off.. Landowners won't let me on if bans are on.. Some nice critters out there.. My flinter will have to wait for snow
