Riverbend golf course pond

Just wondering if there's fish in the pond at the riverbend golf course in red deer and if so can we fish in it?

Apparently I heard a F&W Guy had tagged a sturgeon in there after the flood went over the golf course a few years ago !

There is definately fish in the ponds. You can expect a lot of pike, and the odd wallie. Nothing too big, maybe 3.5 -4 lbs is the biggest i've seen there.

Yes, a few years back there was a sturgeon in there. It was caught and released back in the Red Deer River. I'm not sure that it was exactly due to the flooding, as it's about a 20ft bank for the water to flood over, but there's a canal that connects the ponds and the river, and if the gate was left open, fish could freely travel between the two.

Here's a link to the newspaper story of the Sturgeon in those ponds:

Ahh gotcha. So we're free to fish in the ponds then?

Yeah, for sure - it's a great place to take the kids, and when I've had a string of skunks, I go there to remember the feel of a fish on the line, and restore what little fishing confidence I have to take on the world again :)

Does anyone know where the deep water or holes are in the river within the city limits? I don't really feel like driving all the way to Dickson Dam

Out sides of bends or infront of the storm drain buttresses.

Look for beaver houses along the bank. They know where the deepest water is. Most of my best spots along the rivers are by beaver houses.
