Are the lakes like Sylvan or Gull frozen

Does anyone know if the lakes like Sylvan or Gull get frozen? Wondering if fishing on boat still possible. Thanks for any reply.

I really doubt there is much ice. Was walking the dog today and the south end of Beaumont pond is frozen. Everything will thaw next week. +7. Mid December is when I start drillin.

Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words .... you should be OK, the forecast for Tuesday is +8C.

had the boat on pigeon lake on oct 20 . had to use a different boat launch then usual ,as there was ice piled up on the one we normally use, from the waves freezing on the ramp making an ice hump over a foot high.

Oct 22nd .... Sylvan Marina ... sure looks cold -16C windchill.

The effects of global warming!

Not "global warming"...."climate change", and that is absolutely what we're seeing. Regardless, I've got Sunny +9 for Tuesday, with high's around 6 and 7 for the tail end of the week. We'll see how that impacts things.

My boat is ready to head out.

Well, one thing. We know the water temps sure took a dive. It will be a pretty quick freeze over once the 2nd winter hits :)

Zip-in-Z 10-23-2020 07:56 PM

Perhaps winter is already here, that's the main pier, who wants to be the first to drive out on it?

Not my pic but taken today.

Stay safe this winter

I believe that was the truck that went down in Sylvan in the Palm Bay area last year, it took them a few weeks to get it out but the owner said his insurance covered it, lucky for him.

Pic from Lighthouse this afternoon, some of the ice is covered with snow, if you look close that's clear ice out to the weed-line, it's going down to -26C with windchill tonight, we should see more ice on Sunday.

I thought the earth is supposedly getting warmer but now we call it climate change?

Poppa 10-26-2020 02:36 PM

+10 Sat // +12 Sun in my forecast. Really curious about taking the boat out for one last rip on Sylvan Sunday, but we'll see how it goes. I'd imagine all docks are out now, and the launches themselves might be pretty frozen up. We'll see how much things melt off during the week, but I'm thinking about it....

Someone took this pic yesterday, there's still this Sea Doo and stand in the Lake at Petro Beach.

... if your out fishin Sylvan on Sunday November 01st, you'll be crucified here, season closes Oct 31 and open again on Dec 11th ... same for Gull. See you Saturday & put your boat away on Sunday.

Jackfish Bay iced over this afternoon, with plus 16 Friday doubt it will stick but I can hope and the Bow and SSR are pretty much ice lots of big chunks and frozen ares, probably all bust loose when it warms up then again maybe not all of it

I'm hoping to get the boat in Mcgregor this weekend. Need some wind to clean up the ice ;)

Completely forgot about this until it hit me this morning. FRIG!!!!!!!! So chapped. Friggin' Alberta and your weird regs...ha ha. Thinking about maybe heading to Pigeon, but have never fished there. Buffalo still open, but I don't have a lot of use for a bunch of dinker jacks. Seems like such a waste to not be on the boat when we've got +16 in the forecast for Sunday!!

Any update for the ice on Sylvan and Gull Lake?

Any response is appreciated :)

Donkey Oatey 10-30-2020 08:23 AM

Drove down the beach at Sylvan last night. No ice at all along the beach.

yoteblaster 10-30-2020 09:26 AM

Drove past the north east side today and all I could see was open water.
