2019 Ford Ranger
 

I've been interested in getting a new mid size truck and the new 2019 Ranger looks promising. Cant wait to see how this stacks up and compares to a Tacoma or a Canyon. Looks to start around $30,000 for a base model.

the price is insane in my opinion. I got mine in 2010 for 19k and my husband got his F150 in 2013 for 30k.

Its in the ball park of a Colorado and lower than a comparable Taco which comes in at $36,000 for a base model with 4x4. Dont think its really fair to compare the old rangers to the new ones they went from the compact to midsize with these, 2.3L Ecoboost with 270hp and 310ft/lbs of torque, 10 speed tranny, ONLY 4x4s to be sold in Canada right now. I had an 08 Ranger, good truck but very dated, the only vehicle i made money on when i sold it.

Whether they have or not, prices of vehicles definitely seems to have gone up.

It seems the Ranger is pretty much in line with its similarly equipped competition though.

I prefer the older trucks, think pre 2000 model year. But this new Ranger has me thinking maybe a new truck is in order.

Anyone else remember when a Ford Ranger was a full size pick up?

It's not really though:

-Base Ranger (270 hp, 10 spd Auto, 4x4) MSRP: $30,969;
-Base Honda Ridgeline (280 hp, Auto, AWD) MSRP: $42,711.25;
-Chevy Colorado (200 hp, 6 spd Auto, 4x4) MSRP: $31,100.00;
-GMC Canyon (200 hp, 6 spd Auto, 4x4) MSRP: 31,615.00;
-Nissan Frontier (261 hp, 5 spd Auto, 4x4) MSRP: $28,898.00;
-Toyota Tacoma (159 hp, 6 spd Auto, 4x4) MSRP: $37,540.00.

As the Ranger comes standard with 4x4, I made the minimum required 4x4 and that's as cheap as they come. I believe all six were just extended cabs.

Drove one of this summer in Europe---not bad, but think Ill stick with a big boy F150

Tacomas are expensive to get into but you will save on repairs and get a good trade in value down the road.

I just traded my 10yr old Tacoma for a 2018 demo. I don't need anything bigger and will never drive another truck after the results I had with the first one. In 10yrs I replaced the front brakes, replaced the rear shocks and fixed a cracked weld on the exhaust. That's it!

No compact trucks anymore. Kind of a shame. I feel like they had a purpose.

I picked up a 19 taco and am very happy so far. The price hurts a bit but knowing I'll get it back is nice as well as knowing it should go more than 150k before piling up is even nicer.

150k is the benchmark now for reliable? my gmc is at 220k with no issues and my last toyota went 350 before some wanker it me and wrote it off I fully expected a minimum 500k out of that car

On the 2 F150s I've owned 150k was about it...The 07 engine went at 148k amongst other problems. The 2010 was in and out of the shop its whole life up to 80k and I got rid of it. 14 Chevy was doing pretty good I got bored lol. Dont think it would have done high miles like the older chevs though.

This all said I'm an oilfield operator so not exactly easy on trucks and rack miles fast. Wanted the toughest and best resale so trying a Tacoma.

My first truck was a every option available for a 2008 Ranger FX4.
I loved that little truck but I out grew it and needed a F150 .
Sticker was $32,000 and I paid $25,000
Fully loaded 10yrs ago.
My current 2015 F150 Lariat with FX4 and 6.5 bed was $62,000 and I paid $55,00.

Amen to that. The day I see a Ranger put in as many kms with minimal repairs is the day I give them the benefit of the doubt.

Ford is gaming this a bit though, the "base" Ranger doesn't even come with cruise control! By the time you add the 101a equipment group for that you're at $34,169. I'd bet a couple bucks that trying to find this base model without that package will be just about impossible, they do the same with the F-150 and it's really silly imo.

You can get a decent full size right now for around $37K.
If I was in the market a midsize would not be on the menu.

Nobody is discussing what you can get them for though, we are discussing MSRP, very different numbers.

For Sure. I'm pretty Sure Ford will discount these heavily in the fall, just like they do with every other vehicle they sell. And that is still, just the advertised price. I bet you could get one for low 20s if you are will to wait til fall 2019.

a. You're not getting much of a full size for $37,000.
b. Not everyone needs or wants a full size truck.

Sure look good! I bought my f150 new this last June. I wanted to wait for the new ranger to see how it compares but couldn’t pass up my truck. I’ll take one for a test ride sometime in the new year. I really only need a truck to pull my RPod which may weigh in 4500# loaded and a 2 sled trailer. No real needs other than that. Sure love that eco boost power of the f150 though!

I have a 2008 Ranger that I purchased new,303,000 km.
New alternator in the second year which was covered under warranty
The only things that needed service were one set of brakes and one battery
No leaks,original clutch,does not burn oil(at least not enough to see any puffs of blue).Minimal rust,just easier to see because the truck is white.
Wish they still made the compact version,sure they are a little on the small side but it’s all I need in a truck.

The Ranger Raptor won't be available to the North American market as Ford is upping the production on the F150 Raptor instead.

North America finally getting the Aussie Ranger eh? What a shame we are not getting the diesel.
Look at the stats, this is not a "compact" truck as you are used to them. It can carry 850kg in the bed and tow 3400kg. They are as much or more comfortable to ride in than a full-size. All you lose out is bed size. Much nicer to park and drive in the cities too.
If they'd bring the diesel over, you'd get all that plus <10L/100km.

Yes, but there sure is a lot of guys that wouldn't be caught dead in a smaller truck.

A lot of guys out there that buy into "Guts, Glory, Ram" and all that hyper testosterone fueled advertising.

I believe it won't be available at the launch but have a very hard time believing that it won't be available around the point of the mid-cycle refresh.

I do enjoy my full size truck, but the bloating of vehicles has gotten out of hand. You compare current 'midsize trucks' to a a pre-2000s full size and they are virtually the same size. I never bought into the "Guts, Glory, Ram only real men drive BIG LIFTED trucks" BS my truck gets used as work vehicle/commuter/hunting/do it all.. Heck my friends rip on me for driving a Titan, but it gets far more real hard use than any of their american trucks.. Anyways I like to be able to reach into the box to grab tools not have to climb a ladder to get into them, in terms of practicality these midsizes fit that role perfectly for me.
