Guided Hunt advice?

Hi Gents, turning 40 in few years and I'd like to treat myself to a guided hunt. I've never done a guided hunt before so seeking some suggestions. I'd like to do Yukon Moose, but I'm open to any and all suggestions. If anyone has a region or company to recommend it would be much appreciated.

Regards, Aaron.

Macmillan river kills big moose but more waters edge hunts.
Have you considered an NWT hunt. Big moose, different style of hunt

Take a look at hunting Africa or Europe. For half the price, many animals and a luxurious trip. If you look up the thread I posted on Africa from a few years ago it will give you a good overview. Hunting Boar in Hungary or big game in Argentina or Texas, are all far less expensive than here and the opportunity to take multiple animals.

Plenty of excellent outfitters in Yukon.

Ive flown over and landed in many Yukon areas. The moose population is excellent. The hunts arent cheap but your hunt is well worth it. The guys at McMillan have a great area as does Shockey and many many others. Lake hunts are good, argo hunts or horses are great and boat hunts on rivers definitely show you a lot of country. Calling and drifting.

Think about how you want to spend your days. You can circle a lake in a boat, get out and hike, you can be in an argo and go up and down hills and creeks or horseback on an old school style hunt. Spike out or have a main base camp. Or both.

There is a lot to consider. Of the hundred guides ive seen come and go, only 2 have been poor at their job. Most are really nice people and know their stuff. It matters because 8-10 days with a guy you dont click with is an eternity.

Do your research, talk to guys that have been there and done that, then go with your best option that suits you. There is no "best" outfit. They all have their pros and cons.

My guiding preference is to cover a lot of country. I take gear to spike out if we see a big moose and decide to tent it for a night. Moose are on "Yukon time" and sometimes it takes a bit to get them to commit. Then again ive had monsters hanging out on a pothole lake just waiting to be taken. Regardless, if you decide on the Yukon, be assured you are in moose country. Big moose country.

And be in shape. Cardio. Ive had 350lb guys who thought it was a canned hunt. You WANT to take them up over a hill to check a valley and they just cant do it. Be an asset by having the ability to hike a bit. You dont have to be a superstar, but be able to hold your own for a mile of walking. Some guys cant do it.
