Drowning at Mcgregor

Saturday 4 large adult males went out in very small boat .....
Very windy . The boat had about 4 inches of free bord ...
The boat sank in the high waves . Three of the men made
It back to shore ..The boat and the 4th man did not .
Bad things happen to foolish people ! Search is still on !

That sucks...
Condolences to the mans family.

This is Alberta in the fall

This used to happen frequently with new hunters from the east, they were not familiar with how fast the wind can come up and how unsafe the "lake" would become.

My best advice is do not use a boat to hunt ducks in Alberta. You don't need one and they are way more dangerous than yo know.

That is one dangerous lake. I recall a fellow drowning when a boat overturned while the RCMP were trying to help them. Nothing to stop a strong wind whipping across the prairie. Be careful!

This is in large part why I like Zodiac type boats, they don't sink and are very hard to flip.

Not really...
Sad to hear of these tragedies.
Lost a friend years ago in the Fraser River .
Travis would have been39 this year...
Wear your PFD, it may save your life or not, but your loved ones will find you.

same with a little girl on Newell, thats why the local Rescue ended up getting a new boat. they hit the rock shoal that comes out from the RH res outlet and she was trapped under the families boat. all the southern lakes can get some pretty scary waves almost in an instant.

Anyone hear if they found the missing person yet?

My mistake actually. I was thinking Newell, not McGregor. Still, a windy lake.

So heart breaking.
All of us go out with fun and adventure in mind. Sure we know the risks but do any of us really think we will not be home for dinner?

Be extra safe people.
