Licence renewal

For those of you that have not renewed yet, here is some info , you don't have to give in your consignor statement from the auctions for furs sold .The memorandum in the 2016 -2017 regulations list ( sale/consignment/taxidermy receipts , tanned hides , etc . ) To verify their fur harvests for resident & Registered Trappers . You can have them with you when you go to renew & if they request to see them for verification then you can show what you need but you don't have to give them over if you don't want to . They cannot keep or allowed to keep any financial statements . This is what I found out today from Phyllis in the Evansburg office. The wildlife Biologist in Edmonton was away till mid July when I went in to renew on July 4 TH, so I phoned Evansburg . She was kind enough to track down a biologist & get some answers for me . You still have to fill in your harvest report & for resident trappers each WMU trapped . This is a learning curve for all & the offices aren't sure on what is needed , if you have a number of a Wildlife Biologist then you can follow up for info . Cheers

Renewal of license

Whitetail good to hear some offices are being reasonable on license renewals for our traplines. I always like dealing with Evansburg F & W office, they are very nice staff and helpful to trappers.

I tried to do mine a week ago and they said I had to wait till later in the month.
Also called my Fish cop to get approval every year to get my license and he said he has no say in anything anymore and it is up to the biologist. Guess I will go and give it another shot in a few weeks again

In the last 25+ years that I have had a line, I have never had to produce anything to PROVE what I took. I don't recall earlier, during this period just what was required. If I were to tan all my furs, there would be no auction records and if I did my own tanning there would be no tanning receipts either.....duhhh
If this is what was being asked of by particular offices, it was just someone with a budge flexing their muscle..seen that before.

Which office?

" New World Order" now with the Bio's looking after traplines now. The F & W boys were nice to work with always had a good understanding of traplines.

Thanks. I'll try Spruce Grove or Barrhead.

Good question . I have a resident trapline and I tan many of my own hides myself . How will this affect me ?

sourdough doug 07-10-2017 10:18 PM

IMO, keep in mind what the Bios. have in mind... now that they have control, that will be to phase out what we do. It started with fewer and fewer of our F&W guys being the sportsman we all knew them to be. Today More and more are rookie environmentalists and so the saga begins to unfold. Card carrying greenpeacers and Peta people. When the Parks people and Bios start packing, consider the games have begun.
As far as tanning, when the "numbers" indicate that something smells in Denmark, they will change things again..

The original post stated that you aren't required to provide any proof. Just fill out the form with your furbearer numbers and that's it. Even then you are "asked" to do it and it is "encouraged". It doesn't say that you are required to.

"Holders of a Resident Fur Management Licence are asked to complete a Resident Fur Harvest Report (WA12A) on or before September 30 to report the number and species of fur-bearing animals harvested during the previous year, by Wildlife Management Unit. This information helps to inform management of sustainable furbearer populations, and so trapper participation in completing these reports is encouraged."

I wouldn't worry about it. That proof part was part of something regarding traplines last year and that's since been quashed.

Licence Renewal

Renewed my licence in Spruce Grove today, without any issues. The lady I dealt with was very helpful and pleasant. If anyone plans on going there payment is only cash or cheque.

Not sure, I believe you can renew Resident License at any F & W office. However RFMA license needs to be renewed at designated office for the respective RFMA where your file is on site.

Picked mine up at Twin Atrium building Friday.

Licence renewal

Yes you can renew at any F& W office. I completed my returns and lady forwarded information to appropriate office where I hold the line. They gave approval and licences where issued.

So, I finally got the chance to pick up my trapping licenses. Inserted in the trapping regs was a Memorandum titled "Notice of Changes Affecting Alberta Trappers" dated September 1, 2016. It states:

"Starting in the 2017/2018 trapping season (next year) both Resident and Registered Trappers will be required to verify their fur harvests (sale/consignment/taxidermy receipts, tanned hides, etc.) Please retain all applicable receipts from this upcoming 2016-2017 trapping season to provide when you renew your license in 2017."

I don't recall seeing this memo last season and I wasn't asked to provide receipts, etc when I renewed this year.

Does anyone know if this policy has been quashed or can we expect to require receipts, etc. in order to renew next year?

nube 08-31-2017 04:08 PM

This was the easiest year to renew for me. I usually had to get my Fish cop on my line to call the Edmonton Office to tell them it is o.k for me to go ahead and buy my license then go in and get it.

This year I didn't have to do that because they have nothing to do with it anymore which in a way I think is not right but certainly easier.
I walked in an got mine and they just wanted to know what I caught the year earlier was all. No mention of receipts or nothing

Apparently they didn't get the memo.

It appears to me that they scrapped it for last season and didn't get it into the regs for this season. Thus the reason for inserting the memo into the regs.
