Support for power ram snare

Hi questions for the guys that use power rams just started using them for first time as I just recently moved to east central sask what are diff ideas ppl use to sure the actual snare right now I’ve been using a small piece of wire wrapped around arm of ram then twisted few times around snare cable to bend it where I needs to ect problem I have is tonight I checked snares An noticed I must have twisted wire to much as had a yote in snare an snare An ram were moved length of ancor cable to tree by ram wasn’t set off as it could pull outa groove in eye of the ram any idea or what other guys are using

Yeah a little piece of tie wire works well
Make sure it is easy to pull off the tree or the ram though.
Most times there's enough snow to support them themselves

Sorry maybe I wasn’t explain properly I was lookin way to support snare off the ram ram is already mighty wired to tree

I don's use them, but I'm curious why you wouldn't be able to simply add a whammy and support it with 9 gauge as with a standard snare? if you secure it on the ram side of the cam lock or loop it shouldn't effect snare functionality?

jeffreys 21234 11-21-2017 10:59 AM

Well that’s exactly wat I was thinking with the whammy maybe will hafta try a cpl that way an see how she goes

I don't use them either but it looks like there's wire wrapped around the cable for support in this picture.

The rams are all we can use in sask, and I put the wire threw the hoop and attach to the back arm of the ram. Make sure there is a loop over trigger, then just twist it to your preferred loop size. Coyote should always set the ram off, only had maybe 2 small fox not trigger the ram in the last 4,5 years.

jeffreys 21234 11-21-2017 03:30 PM

Yea that was how I had it set with wire but to tight so trigger had no play for yote to set off ram maybe I’ll just hafta try the whammy or just always make sure to have some play for the trigger been a learning curve for me this yea trapping up here more in the bush then what I’m use to snaring in bald ass prairie of southern Alberta

Yeah just like Hunter Daves photo just make sure to leave space around the crimped nut or ferrule when you twist wire on.

there are several good youtube videos about setting up power snares.

ryan5911 is a great channel to use. there are a couple others that are popping up.

Trapping inc also did a power snaring episode in season 2 i believe

Do you have to use power rams in northern SK now?

I put the support wire on the snare by wrapping around snare starting between the eye and the nut. Make sure you go over the middle of the nut and leave enough space so it will sit in notch. Keep wrapping around wire and stop when you have a perfect loop. I do up hundreds of these before season while watching tv. I remove the wire off the used snare and put it on a new snare, ready to go. I find that by using these I can set the ram and be on my way in minutes.
