2019 Pronghorn Pics

Went for a quick cruise tonight and found this little up and comer. Also noticed some of the mule deer have about 6" of antler.

I saw this guy in the middle of April. he has a big head on him and a nice start for length. my guess is he will put on a couple of inches on the bottom and turn out to be a good one I'm thinking. He has the shape you want, with good bases and bigger 2nd measurements. Prongs are nice as well. good top mass.

Not sure how exactly they did in general, but I'm seeing more around the area I hunt more than last year. Saw a group of about 11, a trio of bucks, a buck with doe and two little ones, and a couple loner bucks. Saw that in one day out.

My thoughts exactly when I opened this. Is he coming or going?,seems t o be everywhere, lol....Beauty photos in both threads though. I wish I could find the time to get out and scout for what this great province has to offer more often.

ram crazy 04-30-2019 10:34 PM

Here's one more. The Ram pics and the pronghorn pics were taken a week apart.

FWIW, the Bio last year said to me that the SE part of the province had a major kill off from the severe winter conditions. the further north you went the less impact the weather had in 2018 on antelope populations.

Seems odd. I live in SE Alberta and we never had any winter in 2018? Never came until Feb/19.

Seeing quite a few around. Pheasants too.

I'd hate to see what you call quite a few, cause I haven't seen the numbers that there used to be say 10 yrs ago.

bessiedog 05-01-2019 07:22 PM

Dammit Ram!
You never stopped by fer a brewski!

I owe you a mug of The Bellevue Inns finest!

True, but 10 yrs ago there was too many. Undersubscribed licenses went un purchased. Antelope were destroying alfalfa fields.

I'm seeing quite a few compared to the spring of 2011. That winter smoked the pheasants and the antelope. They've come a long way since then. Compared to '11 I'm seeing quite a few.

This guy here peaks my interest. Come October he'll be one to watch for. Sorry about the picture quality as he was off a fare distance.

Rackmastr 05-07-2019 10:35 PM

Awesome to see the pics! Hopefully numbers are looking good out there this spring.

Love those critters and the country they run around in!

Found this guy Sunday. Sorry for the poor pic but the hawk in the background was pretty cool.

270person 05-08-2019 10:32 AM

I saw more than normal when I was down last week. More herded up than same time last year and not as many solo/duo bucks.

Love seeing all the Lope pictures now just need to figure out what zone to draw for Archery Antelope!!! Living 8Hrs from the closest lope zone makes it tough to scout that's forsure...

ram crazy 05-08-2019 09:18 PM

Come October this one will be a tank.

Rackmastr 05-08-2019 10:05 PM

Wow that's some mass right there!!

Ryan.M 05-09-2019 07:19 AM

I was doing highway clean up near the Aden border crossing and there were quite a few pronghorn. 1 of them was a giant.

WildBillG 05-09-2019 08:44 AM

Some great pics of Antelope here. Heres a question for you guys. Have you seen them after their horns shed or is shedding just a fairy tale?

SamSteele 05-09-2019 09:01 AM

All these pictures have me excited to get my first goat back from the taxidermist. Here's hoping I get the call soon!

they shed their sheaths every year, with the new one being present/growing underneath as the old one is cast.

ram crazy 05-09-2019 08:29 PM

Here's a good pronghorn. Sorry about the pic the heat waves were super bad tonight.
