New rangefinder

Being that I'm back in the archery game I'm thinking I'm gonna need a new rangefinder. What you guys recommend for a guy who strictly bowhunts and won't be ranging anything past 80 to 100.

Range finder

Cabelas screwed me over with their "mail in rebate" on a bushnell range finder. Carefully research where and who you buy from...

Pursuit x1.

Cheap and works well. Has angle modes and a red display so it's easy to see in low light. Perfect for bow hunting.

I got my rebate. Followed the instructions and didn't have any issues. Sorry you didn't.

Leica is the way to go, bought a used 1200 on AO a couple years ago and it is awesome.

Mike_W 12-04-2016 01:23 PM

I have a vortex 1000 that works pretty good but currently cabelas has a good sale on the Nikon prostaff 7I

Scottmisfits 12-04-2016 01:27 PM

I have a Leupold. I like the clarity in it and the smaller size. I didn't happen to get the angle compensation one but there is that option as well.
I got the Halo for the wife. Optics quality isn't there and it only has black display and it seems pretty faint as well.

I use Leica. Clarity and accuracy is surpassed by none. The down side of course is the cost

I was disappointed in my Leupold. Brothers bushnell is a better choice in my opinion.

Hugenuge 12-04-2016 08:18 PM

I use a leica 1000 as well and its awesome! wont range under 10 yards tho. I hear there are some out there more suited for bow hunting that allow you to range under 10 yards.....I dont see the need to range anything that close its pretty easy to tell whats inside 20 yards. I do bow hunt and its always worked well for me.

kevin2053 12-13-2016 09:30 PM

It finally came. As suspected they decline my rebate. I complained to cabelas and they floated me a gift card. Better than nothing. They didn't give me an explanation

I've been using a Leupold 1000 for several years now is very good but
not cheep either but..

Can be used for rifle or bow or golf etc. battery lasts a long time and can
calc. third dim. for shooting upgrades (top of hill) or down hill slopes (valleys).

Some newer bow range finders may be cheaper and lighter in weight but most
don't calc. up or down hills and can't do long range (rifle) yardages.

For me it was important to spend the money and go with a higher end
range finder because it gives me a degree of confidence when I take a stand.
And for that I want that that thing to work each and every time.

And I hate to buy use once and throw away plastic stuff.

Nothing compares to a leica range finder unless it's the g7 for more than double the price

My wife bought me the Nikon prostaff 7i for Christmas from Cabelas when it was on sale. Unfortunately it is on back order. Apparently she was told by the sales person that they are behind on manufacturing them. But I'm sure it has more to do with ordering issues. The thing I find funny is that when Cabelas has those big sales, they usually have a ton of them in stock. Hopefully I won't be waiting too long.

I tried the Nikon pro staff 7i and was disappointed on the long range. Could not range a herd of angus cows about 600 to 800 yards away. The Lecia could with no issues. Could get deer at 600 but something black would not read. Took it back.

MugEye 01-07-2017 04:20 PM

I use the halo. Not overly impressed. It's fast but low light you can see the display . A friend has the bushnell g force it has a red display . Vary nice .

Savagelh 01-07-2017 05:31 PM

Pretty much any modern range finder is fine for what you need. For less than 100yards Bushnell Nikon Simmons redfield would all be fine and are pretty inexpensive. Angle compensation is nice but not necessary. Units that take cr123 batteries are easier to find spare and cheaper batteries than cr2. I was always happy with my Bushnell 850 except for one time it let me down in the thick fog and I missed a nice muley because of it.

Which Leupold do you have ?

Madman1 01-07-2017 09:24 PM

Rangefinder

Most units will range well, especially at archery distances. Illuminated display is very helpful, among the features I like most on my leupold 1200tbr.

JimmerAB 01-08-2017 10:54 AM

I bought the Bushnell G-Force DX 1300 last year, and so far I'm very happy with it. I hesitated buying one for a few years. Just couldn't justify the cost for something that may not get a lot of use. Turns out I was wrong about that! It gets used all the time, whether the quarry is gophers, deer, coyotes or paper. It has all the bells and whistles, and would be more than adequate for a bow hunter. Good luck with whatever model you choose to buy.

I would suggest the leupold 600. Will give you a great rangefinder for a respecxtible price. You will love it.

MugEye 01-09-2017 10:14 AM

I think the next finder I buy will have a lighted red or orange display. Black display is just not that good in low light . Who's rangefinders out there has this ?

JimmerAB 01-10-2017 02:55 PM

My Bushnell G-Force DX 1300 is one that has the red illuminated display.

I seen a youtube video comparing the Leica to a Sig Sauer kilo 2000. It compared quite favorably and cost less. It convinced me so I bought the Sig

bowhunter9841 01-24-2017 04:22 PM

Got my Nikon prostaff 7i today from Cabela's. It is pretty cool. The farthest thing away from my house so far is 220 yards! Lol, picks that up no problem! I like it so far. We will see how it fares out in the real world soon! Then I'll let you know.

kingrat 01-24-2017 05:42 PM
