Are there any downsides to doing a dpf delete?

I'm from GP. On my way to Hinton my truck went into limp mode and had to be towed aND is now stuck in Hinton. I want to get rid of that dpf but was wondering if there were any cons to doing this?
Does anybody do the deletes in Hinton?

What truck do you have? Only negatives really are the smell when warming up and they take a lot longer to warm up after the egr is removed/turned off.

Anvil1010 05-20-2018 09:34 PM

It is a 2009 gm duramax.

jstubbs 05-20-2018 10:04 PM

Don’t get any “hot tunes” put on it after deleting and there is no downside unless Alberta begins emission testing diesels, in which case you would have to put the DPF back on.

Without the DPF, the truck exhaust will also be a fair bit louder, so be forewarned on that.

Other than that, it’s the best possible thing you can do for that truck. Look into doing an EGR delete while you’re at it.

Not sure on diesel shops in Hinton, sorry. Your best bet is call around on Tuesday.

Got the same year d'max. Did a EFI Live delete, better flowing exhaust and added 60-70 hp about 120,000km ago. No regrets

buckbrush 05-20-2018 10:58 PM

I've had two d'max trucks done and did my cummins myself. No regrets so far. Make sure you keep the stuff they take off. Good scrap value on those, they like to forget to send them.

Enjoy the increased power, milage and lower egts.

Good thread. I’m 30,000 from warranty and thinking deleting mine on my dodge.

meh.

Increased power...yes, increased mileage?... maybe litre per hundred pulling on a good day, empty not so much but that could be my right foot.

Keep in mind a deleted diesel pollutes at a rate 90 times a dpf and scr and def equipped motor . Quote from ford!

Not sure about the duramax, but cummins will get way better mileage after delete.
Also enjoy cleaner oil with egr gone, as well as increased engine longevity.

All pros, no cons IMO

My son had his '12 1 ton Duramax deleted and chipped and it made a world of difference, nothing but super positives!!:sHa_shakeshout:

Should make it illegal to delete the dpf....:sHa_shakeshout:

ctd 05-21-2018 03:46 PM

Your only regret will be not doing it sooner.

Just did an 08 dmax with 750 000km on it. Went from 19 to 24mpg on its first tank

I deleted one for my aunt, 08 f350 dually.
Went from about 4.5mpg pulling a trailer, to 18.

So, basically turned it from a lawn ornament that was too expensive to drive... into a useable vehicle.
Can't see any downside there!

Mine didn't but that could just be the guy who did the EFI Live tune. He put a 110 plus hp in it when I asked for a towing/economy tune. Towed like **** so I got him to roll back the hp.

Maybe you could do it for the OP at a reasonable price as you are not that far away :love0025:

I wonder if that dpf was permanently plugged or partially. Ford had a real screwy set up at that time for regen. good riddance I am sure!

Anvil1010 05-22-2018 01:02 PM

Thanks for the reply's everyone. I am pulling the trigger and getting it done.

Duramaximos 05-22-2018 01:11 PM

I have a bigger problem with EGR than I do with DPF , in principle. I hate the idea of the intake getting clogged up with soot over time.

Is it ****ible to use a tuner to disable EGR in a 2013 duramax?

Where to get it done?

In Edmonton, who is a good reasonable company to do the deletes?

Chuck_Wagon 05-22-2018 01:58 PM

I know two people that have taken their diesels to Revolution motors in Edmonton 50st & 82ave. Both happy :)

I agree. Whoever thought it was a good idea to run all that soot back through your engine should be lynched. I'm going to do my 2012 cummins soon

EGR was the first stage in emissions control, and made little to no sense... but it worked slightly to reduce particulate matter. And yes it can be deleted fairly easily.

Best results we have had from our fleet is to delete SCR,DPF, and EGR where applicable, then get a custom tune and leave everything else pretty much stock. Trucks run cleaner and more efficient. We are not really looking for power, fuel mileage is the key factor for us.
