Hard 1/4 away. Came out 1/2”” in front of the shoulder blade and ran 60 yards and piled up.

12 hours from shot to last load to the truck.

Had a pretty good day yesterday managed to pull a nice bull away from his cow and make a good shot that had him down in around 100 yards.

Wow some really nice animals on here. Sorry the pic isn't the best and my boy had to have a picture with it. Blocking the antlers a touch.

Lefty - that is a beautiful bull. Have seen a few of your Elk pictures over the years. You've got quite the spot. Again, beautiful animal.
Glion - great to have your boy in the picture. You'll both remember moments like that. Really nice Whitetail.
reddeerhunter - read your story about that bull. Good idea to have the tag. Awesome animal and great pictures.

My 14yr old sons first elk, 3x4 taken at 25yd on the sept 5th, proud doesn’t begin to explain the emotions I had when that bull layed down and died within 40yrds of where he arrowed him. Went back out next day and my other son ranged my bull for me at 53yds. Arrow sunk deep broadside, bull ran 300yds and piled up in the grass just off the field.
Unfortunately my phone was near dead and I couldn’t get quality pics of my sons bull. Working on archery moose for him now and cow Elk for the other son (13)
Hoping for some more good fortune.
-son shooting 46lb with Montecs
-mine taken with Fmj, hypodermic NC
Have great season.

I was trying to get a little closer to some elk I spotted but when opportunity presents a grouse I don't hesitate https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...11c5c7d5f0.jpg

I’ve been bow hunting for 35 years. Taken most of the big game animal we have in Alberta with my bow and even have a caribou (Manitoba) and a wild Turkey. But for some reason I have never taken an elk. Had a few opportunities but could never seal the deal. Well that unlucky streak came to an end Friday night. He came in completely quiet and really only responded to cow calls. Finally ranged him at 55 yards. I have been practicing every 2 days for the last 2 months so felt extremely confident when I let my arrow fly. Text book shot right behind the shoulder. Punched through both rib cages and lungs which made for a very short 60 yard recovery. Luckily in a wide open pea field and the farmer allowed us to drive the truck right to it. Special thanks to the landowners out there who allow us to hunt their properties. And an even bigger thanks to my wife for supporting all my hunting and fishing adventures all these years. Good luck to everyone. Be safe and straight shooting.

*I can never figure out how to make the pictures bigger when posting. If anyone knows how please feel free to do that for me*

Called in a nice 4x5 for my dad this morning. He took him at 30yrds with his crossbow and he didn’t go far. Only 200 yrds from where he shot a nice 6x6 last fall with his crossbow. Pretty good for a guy who’s 71 now. Great memories for us.

On a side note he had broken his skull where the antler attaches and it now grew out of his forehead. Will make a cool looking euro mount

Man nature has a way of adapting hey? He probably got messed up last fall and after things healed up, the root was right on his forehead. A Uni-Elk. Wonderful!! Good for your Dad, too.

marlin4570 09-22-2021 06:19 PM

Couple years ago my uncle shot one like that too!! Think it was the other side! Will see if I can find a picture.

Big congrats to the members above, some great animals have been taken already!!
My cousin and I got out for the last week of our antelope draw to chase some goats during the rut. The decoy didn’t disappoint and we connected on both of our goats this past week using it.
It was my cousin’s first ever archery harvest and my first goat with a bow so we had a great few days on the prairie. Both times we connected we had other antelope 5-10 yards away from us when we sent our arrows. My goat was 15” long and I green scored him at 77-2/8”.
Scratched another hunt off the bucket list…… :)
A shout out to the landowners for granting permission and to SouthwestRanger on here for reaching out and providing some first hand intel he had on the area, it was much appreciated!

Congrats to your dad.Elk are tough animals,my son shot one with a rear hind hoof missing one year.My buddy killed one with four inches of his humerus missing. I have cut up dozens of Elk over the years and seen some injuries that were astounding, yet the Elk lived.
