Moose or elk track?

http://i1253.photobucket.com/albums/...psec5sbvj7.jpg

I went for a hike this long weekend. I came across these tracks. There was 4 sets together. I have a hard time telling the difference between moose and elk. Can you guys help me identify the track and kaybe give me pointers on what the differences are. Ive googled it but still think they are similar.

Moose, looks like a bull!!

Kurt505 08-08-2017 12:52 PM

Looks like an elk to me

Sharpie 08-08-2017 12:58 PM

I'd say elk. To heart shaped to be moose

The moose 08-08-2017 01:05 PM

elk.

Deer Hunter 08-08-2017 01:05 PM

I'd say a moose based on how long it appears to be

35 whelen 08-08-2017 01:12 PM

I would say moose

Moose...look how far back the dew claw impressions are.

the dew claw marks belong to a critter headed the other direction. just inline with this track. space is too large between. I would guess a cow elk

reddeerhunter 08-08-2017 01:34 PM

Moose

Ok well I'm glad it's not just me lol. There were at least 4 sets of tracks going in the same direction. I just picked out a track at random for the pic. All were about the same size.

Bigwoodsman 08-08-2017 02:15 PM

Looks like a young bull moose to me.

LOL, no it's not just you, as you can see from the posts, its all of us.
Generally if I see dewclaw marks in tracks that are only an 1” deep in soft soil I’d lean toward moose, in your case here, because there are 4 plus animals together, I’d figure those were elk tracks.

Elk
Dew marks are not even the same animal

Correct. The few claw marks are way too far behind the hoof marks. I'd say cow elk.

elkhunter11 08-08-2017 04:12 PM

If I had to choose,l I would say elk.

Yeah I was thinking the dew claw marks were quite far back.

Lefty-Canuck 08-08-2017 05:08 PM

On my phone it looked like the back part of the track was covered in sand :). Hence why I thought it was a long moose track with dew claws.

Need more of the tracks to be sure but with 4 sets together same size likely elk.

Elk

Bub 08-08-2017 05:52 PM

Elk

Weren't the dew marks absent on the other tracks?

They were absent on most. There was 3 or 4 prints with dew marks like this in a row. I thought it was strange so i took the pic.

charves 08-08-2017 06:29 PM

To me it looks like a smaller track inside a larger one...like a calf moose inside a cow moose track??

Slicktricker 08-08-2017 06:45 PM

Moose

ROA 08-08-2017 09:12 PM

What ever it is it's a cow. Bull elk and moose tracks have one side of the hoof longer than the other, cows hooves are the same length on each side.

Supergrit 08-08-2017 10:03 PM

A 3.5 year old cow elk with a twisted ankle.

ronkaren 08-08-2017 10:06 PM

Elk, moose are more narrow.

SSTL 08-08-2017 10:09 PM

looks like a moose to me based on size.

JohninAB 08-09-2017 06:52 AM

I would say moose.

Moo Snukkle 08-09-2017 07:29 AM

I can't do it. I can't call that a moose track based on that one pic.

Bushrat 08-09-2017 07:40 AM

I call moose, more pointed at the front tip than elk.
