Lakeland Monster Whitetails

With the whitetail rut in full swing ,the hunters in the Lakeland are enjoying some of the best hunting in the province. Each year Booners are taken in this hidden whitetail mecca. This is due to the fact that the boreal forest area meets prime farm land in many locations. From the rolling hills of the St. Paul district to the forest fringe of the Wolf Lake area, the Lakeland is truly a hunters dream. With the cold weather moving in, whitetail bucks go crazy searching for does, traveling out of there home ranges and losing the smarts that have kept them out of site for most of the year. Scouting is the key. Look for travel routes to feeding areas along with water sources for your best chance of success. Set up a ground blind or tree stand on these deer highways and get ready to tag your Lakeland trophy. Please make sure you have permission on any property you plan to hunt and this includes the many grazing leases in the area. If you are one of the lucky hunters who tagged a bigun', the Lakeland has many well run horn scoring events throughout the region with one of the best being the Cherry Grove Big Buck Night. This event has a ton of prizes along with trophy mounts of all kinds of fish and game speices set up in the viewer friendly confines of the Cherry Grove Hall. Rumor is a 280 was taken in the area this past year. Check out the fun on Dec.15th. Good luck with the 2012 whitetail season and for more tips tune in to 95.3 KROCK every Friday morning for the Lakeland Outdoor Report.
