Did anyone used to play Command & Conquer?

I'm not much of a video game player but I used to love playing those war-strategy games that weren't too complex.

Do they still make these games? Or is there a game that is similar that is more modern that someone can recommend? Last one I played was Red Alert

I used to play that as well, the other ones that were similar were War Craft, Ages of Empires, and Dune 2000. All the exact same concept, just different plot settings.

I'm not sure what the new age of those games would be though.

I used to enjoy Red Alert as well, Star Craft, there was another similar one I liked that I can't remember the name of for sure... Real War or similar. Spent lots of hours playing due to insomnia back in the 90s.

A modern version of Age of Empires would be Rise of Nations which is pretty fun. Not much for command and conquer tho, make sure you don't play the newer ones. They are absolutely horrible.

I used to play that game all the time. The newer versions of these games have all gone to the massive multiplayer genre which I don't like. No real winners anymore just a massive online fantasy. I know World of Warcraft is still around, if its as popular as it once was I dont know.

Actually just found a link to a working version of C&C

StarCraft 2 is similar to red Alert/Command and conquer, except its aliens but same idea, build strategies, and resource management to build up your armies.

I believe it is going to Free to Play later this year.

Free online Risk/C and C:

Turn-based strategy game that is actually pretty good.

Loved all the war strategy games. Currently still playing the 'age of empires definitive edition' as they have released the game with upgraded graphics. The 'age of empires II definitive edition' is due to be released in the forth quarter.

I played so many hours of C&C Red Alert. It was awesome!

Set up a base and run the enemy down.

I was going to recommend you try Civ 6 but it has way more managing gameplay elements.

New game due out next year is Humankind.

There are a few other good games coming out next year. Time for a new gaming PC!

He'll ya. I still play it

Yuri's Revenge. Skirmish mode. Play for the harder maps. About 30 % of the time it's a real challenge- if getting nuked and consistently attacked by 2 or 3 out of 7 other enemy teams.

Play it for a time killer / shut brain off

Rusted metal is pretty close to c and c. Also don’t need Internet to play.

Check out Ruse

If I'm not mistake, Dune 2000 was made by the C&C people and used the same engine.........just different graphics.

I was a big fan of C&C Red Alert. But then, I've always liked the strategy games best and played the crap out of Warcraft and Warcraft II as well as C&C and a few others I forget the names of. I'm still playing Company of Heroes.

If you're interested, check out Steam They buy a lot of older games and fix them so they play on modern hardware. I had to buy (and download) Company of Heroes from them even though I own the disks after Steam bought it. I wager you'll find some C&C there too. The games are pretty darn cheap btw.

Age of empires was just remastered, And new hosting on steam. If you wanted to play it that's your best option.

Johnny Huntnfish 08-26-2019 03:34 PM

So it seems like

Age of Empires
Dune 2000
Ruse
Rusted Metal
Warcraft 1,2,3 but NOT World of Warcraft
StarCraft

..seems to be the best options. Can I play any of these against my buddies over the internet?

Also, I've been saying for years the Nintendo needs to make the original NES games in a way that you can play co-op or competitive with your buddies. How sweet would it be if you could play Blades of Steel against your buddies over the internet?

Warcraft 3: Reforged is coming soon:

I have fond memories of both Warcraft 3 (Zug Zug!) and C&C from the mid 1990s, and other great games like Decent and Heretic. Remember the Command&Conquer soundtrack?

Loved Red Alert and Age of Empires back in the day! I never fid get into C&C or Starcraft. These days i enjoy titles from Paradox Interactive. Many flavours of grand strategy games to meet your tastes.
