Holey, Moley, those Mustangs start at $178,000 USD & go up from there. Personally I'd love to have my '69 Pontiac Gran Prix back.

Sweet. Need a lotto win to have one.

The story of how a lot of those cars like the mustang came to be is such a good one. Lee Iacocca would have made a good prime minister.
I was so disappointed when I went to Detroit in the late 90s. Just unbelievable what its become. The new plastic cars just dont give me the same feelings and I dont care if they go the speed of light either. I can't explain it. I wish I could go back in time. Haha I'm like uncle Reko on Napoleon Dynamite. |
Didn't see any Pintos there ..... :sHa_sarcasticlol:

Getting gearhead designers that didn't even care about money and who only wanted to make something that they could be proud of was, well many just ended up walking away. Henry (Hank) Ford the second forced Iacocca to come out with the Pinto. Haha remember the Vegga and Chrysler's Cricket! Haha bad years for Detroit. |

Sorry! Wasn't trying to mess with you. I know Pinto and Vega bodies where made into drag cars but that wasn't what I was thinking about. I was thinking about stock Pintos that were rushed. Into production by Ford without proper R and D. Remember the exploding gas tanks? Sorry, I'm trying to make friends on here and I'm just putting my foot in my mouth! |

Some info I posted : http://www.outdoorsmenforum.ca/showthread.php?t=382477 What / How the blow up thing started was a leaked internal memo form Ford. The blow up thing is a Myth. Rags like Mother Earth ran articles full of miss - information & stats. Other from that era were far worse & killed way more people. Hot rodders prefered the Pinto over the Vega, as they are 500 lbs lighter & built stronger. GM had huge problems with their vehicles catching on fire (still do) but they paid (something like ?) 43 million to a charity to avoid publication of the stats. Their trucks with gas tanks outside the frame rails killed MANY more people in one year, than all Pintos made from 71 to 80 (nearly 4 million Pintos sold). Commonly called 'The Yellow Mustang Syndrome' . . . . the car of your youth is timeless, you are not.
That '67 Malibu SS that you owned as a 19yr. old kid, and drove the snot out of, was cool. You were young, and the SS was made to burn up the road. The years have gone by, and you've never forgotten those days of your youth. So you found another '67 SS, poured a bucket of $$ into it, it looks great . . . you, on the other hand, not so much. Thin blue hair, 5ft. waistline, mis-matched socks. Your days with the 'shrine to your youth' are spent at car shows . . . sitting behind your '67 SS on your lawn chair. That beautiful SS will never do what it was designed and manufactured to do again . . . . burn up the road. You are in a quandary . . . . Better pack up and leave for home . . . . why you ask? Because the sun just went behind a cloud in Boise, Idaho. End your quandary . . . . 'Rat-Rods Forever' It'll put that smile back on that wrinkled old face again . . . . toothless smile?:love0025: |

I've often wondered why Ford doesn't start a "Classics" division or some such, essentially their classic body styles wrapped around modern equipment, and sell them as limited production items.
