Reloading Barnes 243 Match Burner 105 Grain Bullets - Recipes, Powders?
 

Savage Axis II Precision 1:9.25” twist. I have to develop a load using the Barnes bullets and would like feedback from anyone reloading with the Match Burners. OAL, distance off lands, best powder, etc. All info and feedback would be good as I have to develop a competition load with the Barnes bullets.

Barnes recommends a 1 in 9 twist or faster with this bullet, so you might be in a tough spot already with your rifles twist rate.

That aside, powders with a burn rate between IMR 4831, and H1000 have always served me well in the .243 Win with heavy for caliber bullets, I also preferred using a magnum primer. Seating length was most often dictated more by the magazine length than anything.

I'm running 40.5 gr of IMR 4350 behind 105gr Hornady HPBT's, which have very similar drag coefficients and sectional densities to you Barnes 105gr match burner.

COAL depends totally on your rifle, both the magazine (if it has one) and your chamber/throat.

Find the jam, minus 20-thou from it, load your rounds to that measurement and then find your optimal charge weight.
